...that should have been a solid PPV, but AJ/Jericho, Owens/Ziggler and some of the Divas Tag aside, it utterly sucked.
I've mostly caught up on what I missed and I'l say this: it was still a solid ppv imo. However, it almost got worse as it went along. US title/Divas's Tag/IC title was a very solid set of matches. From there, it struggled, and although the Main Event was good, the pop Dean got from the crowd when he smacked Roman with the chair was louder than the pop Roman got for actually winning. So you know...(the main event is a loaded issue, obviously)
There were some curious booking decisions, both from the agents in the matches, and from Vince/creative heading towards WM.
I talked about it before, but I thought Del Rio's tactics in the 2 falls match were very weird. I just figured after he disqualified himself with a chair shot, he'd go to work on the arm and lock in an arm bar and you get a quick tap before he breaks his arm sorta thing, so you build the psychology that way, and it's 1-1 with one guy giving up a point to cheat, and one guy giving up a point to save himself for the last point. Instead we got double stomp....and more double stomps, with Kalisto just hanging there on the ropes.
And then you had the Styles clash thing. I just think you should build it so the Styles Clash basically gets the kill if delivered, but make it clear that it can be a hard move for AJ to lock into and it can often be reversed. One of the cool things about the Naka-AJ match at Wrestle Kingdom is that Naka kicked out of a Styles Cash, which was a big deal because almost no-one had done that in NJPW, but also the Style Clash used was very quickly set-up and it wasn't a perfect one, AJ didn't get the back leg locked in, so Naka didn't kick out the very best Styles Clash. But Y2J just did. And then he tapped. That's pretty silly from what could be an elite finisher.
And obviously, you had Roman being in the Kimura lock for like 30 seconds, and then taking 2-3 chair shots, and then spearing Dean and getting the pin. Which is pissing off a lot of people.
I thought it was weird when Sasha and Becky celebrated and left it at that, with no turn or a hint of anything. I figured something might happen there. And then they did the same with AJ-Y2J. And nothing was set-up or hinted at in the triple threat, apart from the obvious Roman vs HHH thing. And also the stare down between those two sucked. Remember when Roman, you know, destroyed HHH last time they were in a similar sort of position as they were tonight? Roman just stood there. No punch. No spear.
I get that there's 4 weeks of Raw, and hopefully 4 weeks of Smackdown, to help set everything up, but it seemed very slow.
