***Official*** New Zealand Domestic Season 2015/16

i wasn't really being that serious. i just want to watch them play more, and wellington keep picking up boring imports from sydney instead.
I'd think why not? Ravindra has been opening in the WC and TBH he had so much time to play both off the front and back foot. Firebirds needs to get out of this short term gains mindset and look to build for future.

Before the PS kicks off if a Ford Trophy tournament team was selected how would it look?
Something like

Worker
Cachopa
Ryder
Broom
Devcich
Bruce
Ellis
Astle
Wagner
Rance
Nuttall
Yeah pretty good. Chapman and Phillips probably with two of the best three or four hundreds in the comp I saw highlights of, if we wanted to omit Devcich.. I see Rance is now trying his luck in the IPL auction and Bruce in the CPL.

Does anyone rate Seth Rance on CW or am I the only one? He's added 5-10k's so he's now mid 130's, gets real late movment and bowls an excellent yorker. Could easily see him make it as a decent limited overs bowler down the track.

Absolutely they do. Siddons was never the least bit interested in producing local players. You'd hope Edgar is.

Seth Rance in the IPL auction  Spose it's a good yarn to tell. I rate him, don't get me wrong. Bowls a heavyish ball, swings it, good competitor. Old school sort of bowler.

Duffy probably ahead of Wagner, avge 15 vs 22, ER 4.6 vs 5.1. And three 3-wicket hauls in the 3 wins that lifted Otago from 5th to 3rd.

Cachopa as keeper/opener opens up a middle order spot for Bruce, but you could argue against Bruce. His SR 145 may look compelling, but his three big scores were at Pukekura Park (x2) and EPOO road, coming in when the top 4 had laid a big platform. Downhill skier? Or the next Munro? Other option is a 2nd real opener (Latham, M Braces) and Cachopa batting down the order.

Looks OK based on highlights I've seen this year. If NZ persist with Milne as #3 seamer, there's a ODI spot for a 130-ish swing bowler when we are resting / rotating Boult.

i said this last season. he hit high 130s on the slow radars which suggests maybe he is quite sharp nowadays when he's in good order.

Good call. Whenever I saw him play a few years back he seemed to be quite effective and canny but if I had to guess, he was bowling in the 120s and was just one of those domestic guys who should never play internationals and in some ways was the cliché of "everything wrong with NZ domestix" because he was taking a spot which someone with more potential might more usefully use.

This season though his pace appears to be respectable for a front-line seamer, so if he's doing all the other things right (accuracy, swing, brains) then why not?

btw I'm surprised by how few games he has played so I guess CD have also been hanging onto the belief that someone better would come along, irrespective of Rance's pretty outstanding LO performances.

I take it crowds at the Plunket games usually never reach double digits? Queenstown match had like 3 people at best at the game sleeping on the banks while Papps and Murdoch pissed around getting inside edges every delivery

Yeah that's about right Gnske.

It wouldn't be a bad thing if NZC conceded that the PS isn't really spinning anyone's wheels and is delivering "Luke"-warm international talent for the money it blows through each season. A much more comprehensive U17 and U19 structure might deliver more to the national side, if that's in truth all the modern New Zealander really wants as far as his or her cricket intake goes.

I'd be totally fine if our 22-25 best long version cricketers never played one day of Plunket Shield. Run a comprehensive national A schedule that has a provision of 2-3 Under 19 cricketers in it and maybe 1-2 more under 21s. The chaff of NZ A teams is generally the sort of stuff that is never churned through to make wheat (tried to go full Kippax there).

LO and T20 wise, we can't deny our provincial cricketers a shop window to make a name there. I'm still convinced there is a way to make the T20 great, ala the Big Bash. Anyone who watches that on a regular basis can't help but be jealous that Australia gets to enjoy that and we get a bunch of cricketers playing in rugby stadiums with Mathew ****ing Sinclair commentating a game that no one really cares about because there's no Champions League money on offer.
