SA have added Marchant de lange and david wiese to the odi squad. Was suppose to be albie morkel instead of david wiese but he hurt his back in warmups before the titans game sunday.

Marchant De Lange is really, really quick but seems to get plundered whenever he plays an England A or warm up game.

I`m not a big fan of de Lange, he is quick as you say, but his control can be very poor. And I`m not confident of his long term prospects, particularly at international level, because his action is so very tough on his body.

He is one of the better death bowlers in SA. He seems to struggle when bowling up front thought.
I think he is a good death bowler in domestic cricket (much like Abbott) but at international level I think he will (and does) get found out. I think our best death bowler is probably Morkel, when he gets his yorkers right along with his normal back of a length stuff it makes him difficult to target.

I'd be open to experimenting with Root opening actually.

edit: skim read egyptian's post, didn't notice he'd also advocated that.
There's a reasonable chance he ends up there in the end imo.

Allowing the best allround bat to bat the longest. The advanced anchor role. He's well equipped to deal with the new ball, not that it moves for long. At the start of his career he wasn't very clinical in shot execution but now he could make full use of the first powerplay and score plenty of boundaries just by playing conventionally. And from then on he's well equipped to bat through the innings in a conventional manner whilst still batting at 100sr whilst the other players around him play more expansively.

Probably the weakest part of Root's game is the end of the innings. Doesn't have the brute power and loses compusure on occasion trying to hit every ball to the boundary. England have a lot better options in that regard.

The only reason I'd be against it was if Taylor wasn't in the team (or the next WC was in Asia). In that case I'd prefer Root at 3 or 4 to rotate the ball around against the spin and make sure the rest of the bats don't get tied down.

Yeah we've got a few batting options I feel comfortable with going forward.

Root
Hales
Taylor
Morgan
Stokes
Buttler
Billings

with Lawrence/Malan/Ali/Bairstow in reserve is pretty good.

He looks amazing when he is in full flow, I'd imagine he will get a chance for WT20 as he did well for A team in there million match series in UAE. Him and Billings stand out players.

Just get that nervy feeling that we'll do alright against the fast bowlers, but then we'll stumble over each other trying to get out to Imran Tahir.

Good start. Big series for these two with Taylor not being selected this game. Pressure on them to show their worth.

Very quick outfield, England should pile them on today. This start will help, dominating so far.

No Rabada is wahh

Poor start by de lange and morris. Need to pull this back.

Not too worried about batting second, this sides batting looks better then the bowling.

England just destroying South Africa. Gonna put up 350+

Good hitting and terrible bowling. This is going to be a humiliating ODI series for South Africa.
