Wow. I didnt see the Sayers selection coming at all. Im aware of his record, just didnt think it was his time.

Ofcourse he could easily do a Fekete and Boland and be a big discussion point without actually playing.

Does he get movement off seam? Could be horses for courses prediction that NZ will prepare seamers.

yeah he's the incumbent I guess. I think Ahmed's had his papers stamped or whatever that expression is. wouldn't put it past Zampa going ok-ish in India and being picked, heh

I guess the other thing to consider is we have a tour of India early next year so now's definitely a good time to see what SOK can do in the subcontinent.

It's nice to see that we've ended the summer test season with a stable top 5 who have all scored runs, the keeper position settled, and a clear group of bowlers who should take us forward into the next couple of years. Everything has pretty much fallen into place for the selectors except for MMarsh's batting at 6 and the second/backup spinner.

It is going to be interesting to see how they go on more foreign pitches, particularly subcontinent, but it would be great if the selectors could stick with this side now and back them in any conditions. If MMarsh's batting can improve at 6 it will make Australia that much stronger as it means we should just be able to swap a pace bowler for an extra spinner on decks that turn more.

I would like to know how much Shaun Marsh's hundred on debut helps him with selection to SL. Ideally, with a relatively settled top 5 I would rather Bancroft go on the tour. He has shown that he can bat for long periods, is young and being a last minute emergency keeper is a small bonus too.

BTW, does anyone know if we have any red (or pink) ball cricket lined up for the Aus A team?

If so, I would like to see:

1. Renshaw
2. Stoinis
3. Patterson
4. Head c
5. Handscomb
6. Heazlett
7. Whiteman
8. Mennie
9. Paris
10 Swepson
11. Boland

The two spots ive gambled with are probably the qlders Swepson and Renshaw (I guess Heazlett too).

Harris or Dean could get the opening spot and the spin spot could be Zampa or Agar.

For the final middle order position, maybe Turner or Webster. Reserve quicks gets difficult. I guess Tremain or perhaps Fekete. Ive excluded everyone from the recent test squad..

I think the two parts of your post as related, really. If Australia A are playing at the same time as Australia I'd rather Bancroft play for the former than carry drinks for the latter.

If Australia A aren't playing at that time (I don't think they are) then I think I'd take both Marsh and Bancroft; Marsh as middle order cover and Bancroft as opening and keeping cover.

Get Joof in there tbh, really has something going for him to counteract the nepotism and the awful stache.

Yeh I agree Prince - no harm in the Test squad being an extra player or two if there is no cricket going on elsewhere.

I actually forgot about Jake Lehmann. Ryan Carters worthy of discussion too.

Maybe:
Warner Burns Khawaja Smith Voges Marsh Nevill Starc Pattinson Lyon Hazlewood Siddle* Bird O'Keefe Bancroft Marsh.

*unfortunately think Siddle has played his last Test - unless there are injuries.
