I feel so alone and miserable as a van zyl fan.
He's basically Ballanced. His technique has disintegrated the longer his bad run has lasted, which is having a spiral effect.

I think he'll be back eventually, but I don't think it'll be as an opener, and he definitely needs to be dropped at this point.

Yeah but he's just consistently chipped in with wickets rather than singlehandedly wrecked sides the way Broad has.
Jimmeh is getting older and no longer has the nip that he once did

Will get wickets because he is quality but big bags will come less regularly

Finn really should be on by now. Jimmy's been too samey unfortunately and the two lefties are out.

This has been the case for a long while really, and it is fine when you have Broad and if he keeps bowling this well Finn in the side.

He is no way an opener. You can't be that loose and unsure as an opener and survive. Even blokes who are dashers are certain of their movements and shots. He clearly times the ball nicely but I can't remember seeing an opener look as consistently clueless as him.

Yeah I don't think he'd ever opened in professional cricket before he was earmarked for the role in the Test side. I think he played a couple of games for South Africa A and then in he went after batting in the middle order for his entire career. It can work sometimes but it's clearly not worked here. I like what I've seen of him more broadly so I hope he gets another go down the line as a middle order batsman without this counting against him too much.
