Is Chris Gayle some sort of perverted misogynist or can everyone just settle down?

I'm not sure why he is or is not a feminist. Frankly, I don't care nor do I think it's important enough to lie over. It's not like being a feminist is inherently a virtuous thing and only the virtuous can be feminists.
But if you aren't a feminist you are obviously a ***ist asshole.

This thread is now officially Shakespearean.

Comedy (my posts), Tragedy (everyone elses posts) History (of the broader Western feminist movement from 1930 to present day).
Bill begs to differ on the time-frame.

Chappell calling for a worldwide ban over this is patently ridiculous. If CA and BBL clubs -- and more clubs worldwide -- choose not to contract him again in the future, that's their call (tbh I can't see any BBL club wanting to deal with him after this). But to forcibly end his career over it?
Haha right. Chappell's probably just looking for attention.

Gayle in the interview really reminded me of Alan Partridge or David Brent. Someone who thinks they're being quite charming but are actually completely embarrassing themselves. I think other people have alluded to him cynically exploiting his position of control to unnerve someone who's just trying to do their job. Maybe that's true, but it's not how it looked to me.

It's really a particular brand of being-a-dick that attracts crazy amounts of heat. I don't think it exists on a whole other plane of awfulness to, say, Sarwan referencing Glenn McGrath's wife when she had cancer. But then the range of responses might seem more proportionate if it really is part of a pattern of behaviour that includes worse stuff.

.
True & as Ricky Gervais himself points out about the David Brent character, he has a blind-spot between how he views himself and how others do.

I was going more along the lines that it reveals an almost cartoonishly ***ist idea of what feminism and feminists actually are.
Bitter, shrieking Harpies who can only be killed by a quality manspread.

Sarwan didn't know about her cancer ffs. Why is that myth still persisting?
Even if he did, I don't think you can really come down too hard on him. It was obviously said in the heat of the moment, and Glenn McGrath wasn't exactly complimenting him on his shot selection, or telling him what a pillar of society he was.

Seriously tho. Why would anyone be against equality of the ***es?
An interesting question, but I think it's a false positive to suggest that anyone who doesn't actively identify themselves as a feminist is actively against equality between genders.

So the thing stopping you from calling yourself a feminist is a bunch of people being mean to you. Your beliefs must be pretty weak.
The loudest feminist voices are the ones I disagree with the most. I don't want to be associated with their views.

Yeah, it's not like Captain Cook has said that feminists are just jealous of pretty girls and seek to bring them down or anything.
You've injected your own MRA subtext into that quote. My point is that some feminists are opposed to modelling, pornography and prostitution in any capacity. They equate aesthetics with objectification, and hence using any subjective attractiveness to obtain an advantage is by extension self-subjugation as a proud woman.
