30/1 | CANTERBURY A vs WELLINGTON A

Weerasundara's career hanging by a thread. Wellington looking to loosen him up in the engine room.
Making him an offie who can bat a bit?
Quite a few names in Welly A I'm unfamiliar with.

I see a Boyle opening for Canty A. There were 2 Boyle brothers for Canty in the 80s who batted up the top. I think David Boyle had the longest career, in a pretty stodgy era he was pure stodge, so stodgy he wouldn't gat selected for the one-day stuff. Plus he wore goggles.

But there's hope for any new era Boyles. Stu McCullum was the single most boring cricketer of the 1980s and also was a four-eyes - and his offspring are pure rebelliousness to that ..... (Except Nathan's bowling probably equates to Stu's batting).

I'm guessing most of the video scorers are on holiday?

If only there was a back door into the vault we could access. Sigh.

Yeah I see that even when Weeraundara gets in at club and provincial A level, he's still getting bogged down with 30(55) efforts and about 80% of the runs in boundaries. It won't be long before Ravindra's going to stake a claim at the top of the order, so RW's future may well end up in a domestic Afridi-type role.

Nofal a South African U19 rep in 2010. He's a batting allrounder, but I recorded a short clip of his bowling -

An uncle in Mount Maunganui, who told me about a rising star called Kane Williamson a decade or so ago, told me that Kane's primary school batting record had been beaten... by Chris Pringle's son. It sounds like he's a bit of an all-rounder, hopefully he continues to progress.

"He has worked really hard in his technique and likes to play the ball late, under his eyes," he says of the youngster who doesn't just like to survive but carve up runs.

The right-hander, though, bowls left-handed.

"He swings the ball and bowls at a reasonable pace. He lives and breathes cricket and it is everything to him."

Timothy often opens bowling or drops to first change, making the most of his parents' desirable lanky genes.

"He's got a natural bowling talent so I'm loath to let coaches play around with his action."

A shame rain has halted play in the Otago A team. Christi Viljoen was going along nicely. Ex-Namibian player looking to qualify for NZ.

"Viljoen turned his back on his international career with Namibia to chase his dream of playing first class cricket in New Zealand and ultimately for the Black Caps at the next Cricket World Cup, and is very excited and grateful for the Otago opportunity."
Viljoen signs with Otago Volts

Is it just me or does that look like a young Martin Guptill in that Kane Williamson photo at the back there?

(And yes it obvs isn't him)

Yeah just one ball past Phillips' bat by Wagner with the new ball. Phillips is going to be tough even for the better domestix bowlers on a flat pitch if it's not swinging. Barnes kept him a bit quieter by erring full.

Side strain for Kuggs ftr.

NZ U19 leaving within days, so it's Goodin or Cody Andrews or someone who's next cab for Howsieville.

Suspect Ferguson is not actually that quick - low 140s and with a lot of variability.

Seems to have a fairly good slower ball though.
