Looking forward to see what the top 4 batsmen (Cook, Hendricks, Rossouw and de Kock) + the 3 seamers (Morris, de Lange, Paterson) can do starting tomorrow for SA 'A'.

Just an interesting bit of knowledge. Jimmy and Stephen Cook are the only father and son pair to score triple hundreds & also the only father and son pair to score over 10 000 FC runs !

Good start by England in overcast conditions with 15% chance of rain in PMB. SA 'A' 23-2. Hendricks & Rossouw out with Footit and Broad a wicket-a-piece.

If Stephen Cook gets a big knock here, he is certainly putting pressure on the incumbents. Certainly be quite a story with his father being Graeme Smith's mentor as well as his and how they both opened at KES together and how differently their careers have gone.

I also don't think we have very good captains in Du Plessis, Amla & AB as I reckon Cook and Elgar are better captains than them.

Wicket for Finn in his first over. Reckon he plays if he can bowl more than one long spell.
The only reason they don't play him is if he has a reaction to today or they think it is a bit too soon for him to bowl in a test match considering we may have to watch the workload of Stokes too. Other than that he should be in the side on Boxing Day.

Yeah I guess Stiaan is worth first crack against England here, but I'd be bringing Cook straight in for the second game if he fails badly.

Why are Stiaan and Cook being discussed as options when Elgar and Bavuma are the incubents? Are one of them injured?

I thought Finn might be finished after seeing him comeback but this awayswinger that he's seem to have gained in the last year seems to have been a little bit of a gamechanger for him. If he can jag a few back in off the seam and swing a few away it just makes him that bit harder to face. Probably one or two mph slower now than he was pre breakdown but a 83-85 mph 6'7'' who can move the ball a little both ways is an interesting proposition. Still got a fair way to go to prove that he's back but certainly not finished as an international cricketer as I feared. (Although probably never going to be as useful in ODI and T20 cricket as he was)

Really good all round bowling display. Delighted to see Stokes/Finn get through a good workload seemingly ok. Saffer batting line up on paper seemed pretty solid as well, but ran through them aside from Cook.

wicket looked a little soft and not ideal for runscoring on the ecb highlights . Hope Hales gets some runs here given it looks like he's in for the first test.

Dane Peterson has a superb FC record. Would he be in contention for a test call up at some point? Listed as RF on cricinfo.

Finn's action is still filthy. I hope he gets reported soon.

Even if he isn't chucking, his action is up there with Babar in terms of ugliest actions in International cricket. Footit will join the list if he gets a debut

Good opening stand against a pretty solid attack all things considered. Both players needed time in the middle.

Because that was just to give Bavuma a chance and that is where the balance of the side allowed it.

Stiaan will be opening the first test with Bavuma and Duminy at 6 and 7.
