The Kane Williamson Average Watch thread

Will Kane average 50 in both ODIs and Tests at some point before Feb 2017?

KW's average is 6 runs higher in both formats when you limit it to times batted at No. 3.

Can someone remind me when KW ever batted somewhere other than 3? Obviously it must have been early in his career.

Started at 6 in tests and I remember he got selected ahead of James Franklin in the 2011 WC as a finisher - we had Ryder in the top order then

Interesting that when KW debuted at 6 with a century, Watling was at no 3 with McCullum and Timmy Mac opening. Gareth Hopkins was keeping at no8. That was the test when Harbajan stopped us from winning in India after Chris Martin went nuts.

West Indies tour 2012 is the last time I remember him batting anywhere but three for NZ in test cricket.

Then he moved to no 3 for the SL tour with Hesson (on that Hesson-Taylor tour) and scored a century with Ross in the 2nd test. I wonder if Wrighty would have kept KW down the order a bit longer.

Current average = 48.55.

Guess this means he needs 113* or 163.

At least we'll have a reasonable target to chase... #lookonthebrightside

I think Kane is running out of gas for this year. Will be interesting to see what happens in the next dig.

We've potentially got the following in the next 15 months...

2 vs Aus (h)

2 vs Zim
2 vs SA
3 vs Ind (all away)

2 vs Bang
2 vs Pak
3 vs SA

16 tests in the next little while according to FTP?!

Jeepers. Kane should break Crowe's record by then. Maybe up to 20?

If this pans out, I'd say Ross would have gone past BMac for most runs, and Kane would be around the Wright/Crowe run region.

You'd always rather win matches than have one superstar performer (one can obviously lead to the other) but regardless of results kiwi fans should feel real pride with Kane. He's just someone who should put a smile on your face knowing your cricket establishment has produced such an amazing talent. Seems like a lovely guy too.

Yeah but they can go hand in hand. Look at this test - No Kane, no win.

242* vs SL last year

I know we've won games where he hasn't got runs, and lost games where he has. But jeez, after years of lollapses... Having someone like that in our team is immense.
