Will Kane average 50 in both ODIs and Tests at some point before Feb 2017?

could it be possible Root's rise was due to something other than a position shift? possibly just improving with test match experience?

I can't believe I ate the whole thing
Tbf I actually thought for a long while that Root should eventually move back to opening. Being a righty I thought he could form a really formidable opening combination for England alongside the lefty Cook, which would free up middle order spots to have Trott, KP and Bell 3-5 with Stokes/Ballance at 6.

Majorly deluded on various fronts there.

Lanka.

Thats nearly a hundred per innings. Needs to go big and cash in on the weak bowling in the tests if he wants it.

There was a lot of press that Sangakkara broke the combined record last year - what am I missing?

I think the way cricinfo adds up runs in year is different from how "calendar runs" is usually calculated.. I remember something along those lines.

Not sure where to put this but I was thinking about Kane's upcoming captaincy tenure. He has been earmarked and groomed for the job for some time. I think it will be a good thing for our young players to see the captain setting the example in terms of work ethic and a no-nonsense attitude. It may even rub-off on our lower order who have become mini-McCullums with their intent/backing away and slashing the ball down to third man trying to save a test.

However, will the share workload of captaining in all forms affect his batting over the long-term? Can we expect to see a downturn in that ever-increasing average?

Most times it helps your batting at least initially, look for it to boost his avearage further. No way Baz scores that 300 unless he was captain at the time.

85* or 135 (surely we'd declare before he reached that though) are the key numbers on day 4 against Sri Lanka to hit the big 5-0.

Yeah, 85* is much more likely - especially as if Latham gets out, Taylor, McCullum etc will look to dominate scoring. But knowing how selfless he is. he's probably just as likely to hole out on 70 odd in the aid of the team.
