**Official** New Zealand in Australia 2015

That was seriously terrible from Boult. I know Southee doesn't get the best out of his talent but I think making him bat 11 is too far.
When Williamson is captain I wonder if he can get Southee and Boult to not bat like ****wits. Henry too for that matter.

Anyway, 293 for Australia to win, reduced to 187 by the Australia handicap. Yeah I'm sour.

Yeah I'm out. Apart from a few bright points this series has largely been a disappointment and I think some blame has to go on how we prepared (and no, not the warm-up matches to blame - I'm talking about the handling of Boult etc) and the captaincy of one B. McCullum.

Winning the Leeds tests allowed McHesson to gloss over the obvious shortcomings in the batting approach. If a loss here leads to some reconsideration, wouldn't be the worst thing.
Yeah that was a dreadful batting display on the last day - need to bat out the day for the draw so... let's slog.

Agree with this point. We didn't manage his workload in England.

I'm probably a bit more torn about the tail batting approach than most here. I'm fine with tailenders having a wog, but there needs to be a bit more of a system to it. Like if smith starts with three men back on the legside then just milk the free runs until he's forced to bring someone up ffs. Have a swing when the field gets brought up by all means - no point prodding about with three slips waiting.

and if the bloke at the other end is set don't show the opposition bowler sitting on a fiver all three stumps.
Yeah sometimes having a wog is indeed the best approach for Southee et al to maximise runs and/or teams chances of winning or not losing. However other times it's really really not and the players and leadership team should know that.

If there's been one pleasure it's perhaps been temporarily halting the career of Joe Burns in the way we did Gary Ballance.

Indeed, the Hobart game was actually an example where Southee & Boult's unorthodox hitting was crucial. They should read how Steve Waugh Glenn McGrath to improve his batting though. They should be able to improve their defence for certain situations like the Lord's test.

To be fair we've always been behind the 8 ball since that DRS decision. We often drop ours heads when a bit of luck goEs against us & we forget about plan A. It's not the first time.

Burns doesn't look the right fit for opener, doesn't seem natural a player if you buy into that stuff. Always struggles for timing unless he's really trying to muscle something.

If O'Keefe is a pink-ball specialist Burns is the opposite. Has played 8 first-class innings v pink ball for 79 runs, average 9.87 #ausvnz

Random.
