Yeah fair call from Tubby. Would've been thrilled with Aus bowled out for 220 at the start of the day. Remember thinking last night after hearing that Starc was injured that even 350 would see us still in the game.

Aussie co-commentator on radio (Nannes?) says "Sorry to go on about it ...." and then makes the point that the 3rd umpire mistake meant that NZ openers are now starting in dusk, rather than in afternoon light as was likely.

I'm surprised about the bluntness of their commentary. I recall previous series where decisions that fell the Aust way got defended or equivocated by the ex-player co-commentators.

They've done away with them? Ridiculous.
The thinking behind it is that if a bowler breaks down you can't replace him, so why should batsmen be different. Evens out the balance between bat and ball a bit, but also makes cricket a less fair game overall imo, so yeah not a fan of it.

So unhappy I missed the dual Darsh failure, please tell me the Channel 9 box was near tears over this.

Were any of the decisions as poor as the Lyon one?
Historically would've been for real time decisions though where you can always give the umpire the out that "he only had a split second to make his decision". Same defence can't be made for Llong.

Almost wonder whether there's a need for a couple of umpires in the 3rd umpire box. When you're isolated and put on the spot one can tend to overthink things (as I believe Llong did there).
