Burns really shouldn't be opening on swing friendly conditions.....

I can't believe I ate the whole thing
OK Southee or Boult have to come on at the other end now.
Assuming Baz will give Southee and Boult 2 over bursts each before end of play.

Also given we're now under lights doesn't that mean we won't get going off for bad light etc?

It's just a yuck selection and one I didn't think we'd get nowadays.
Don't think it's that bad tbh. I probably would have risked the same approach as Perth - gone for Wagner or Henry instead since it's a must-win (and I thought the wicket would be very flat). However picking Santner undoubtedly makes the side more balanced.

He's not a frontline spinner though. Even noted tremendous fan boy Howsie wants him to drop the bowling (which won't happen because he's a plausible LO/T20 option).

I don't disagree, but the fact he was in the touring squad means he's gone past people in the pecking order, and now he's in the side.

I hope the next evolution of test matches is going to be continuously playing throughout the day and night until one team wins.
5 days play straight imo

It's ironic that one of the reasons for picking Santner was to strengthen up the batting and avoid being bowled out in less a day, and now because Henry would perform a better role in the current conditions, his selection is being rubbished after being bowled out in two and a half sessions.

I agree, either Henry stayed or Wagner played. I don't see how the side is more balanced by a guy who wouldn't be near the side if he specialised in either discipline.

And why is he bowling now? I'm sure he's a decent bloke who will do good things for NZ, at least in limited overs cricket. But he's just bowling up and down darts when Tim or Trent could be looking to find something while the ball is still relatively new. Oh okay, Slats let us know that he got through the over quickly.
