It's really time to accept Kohli has a pretty significant issue in that area. Hard hands, pushing the bat too far away from under his eyes, constantly playing at everything outside off. If he tours England like this again I have no doubt Anderson will have him wrapped around his finger. He's got to improve somehow.

Anything Harmer darts in on middle to the left hander has been impossible to play. When Jadeja does it to right handers it's going to be so much fun.

The problem with a pitch if it starts out dry but balanced between bat and ball, then deteriorates and is like this one on day 3 is that the toss is massive. Batting first gives you a 100-200 run advantage - a team batting second can only really make up for the advantage by dominating the first and second innings basically score 350-400 and bowl the opposition out for 200-250. This sort of difference is possible when you have a balance between bat and ball. By the third and fourth innings then you're pretty much consigned to 150-200 all out and playing well or badly would not make up many runs. A great innings from de Villiers is going to be an 80, not a 200+

A pitch like this from the get go however makes the toss fairly insignificant. Which is why it makes sense to make a more extreme pitch rather than one that wears out through the game. If South Africa wins the toss on a 300 v 250 then 200 v 150 type pitch then they're favourites. It either has to be flat enough to be a good cricket wicket throughout or a dustbowl. A 3 1/2 to 4 day Test match makes the toss crucial when basically it's a pitch for spin bowlers. One that has something in it for seamers initially (bit of grass in the pitch to hold it together more) would certainly not be good for India.
