**Official** New Zealand in Australia 2015

Yeah the last series which had such a gap between expectation and reality was either India-Australia or India-England in 2012-13, but they at least had a competitive Test at the start.
India-England 2012 was much closer than expected being the difference. I don't remember another series this decade where the away side surprisingly turned up like that.

This is looking more like India v Aus in 2013 where you expected the tourists might struggle but not to the extent they did

I can't believe I ate the whole thing
I think I'd rather read the economics thread again than watch this
I bought some junk food so I could put my feet up after school & work and watch some good cricket but it's just so ****ing depressing. I mean Warner's batting beautifully and so is Usman but it's not really enjoyable because there's no contest, just nothing more to enjoy. It's like watching some guys practicing in the nets against some bowling machines in easy mode.

You have a different memory of the pre-series expectations of the India/Aus series than I do

Nah, the technology is used properly in rugby and league. It's stupid to have the players running around on the field doing the reviews. They have a split second to judge what has happened and no replays, and have to decide whether to review. Meanwhile everyone on TV is getting replays and can see the errors mounting.
is this a joke? year on year probably the biggest gripe with fans in rugby league is the video ref.

if you hand over the technology to the umpires they will review just about everything to cover their own ass, just like is happening in the NRL, and tbh who would blame them. then we end up with a huge amount of time wasting reviews

To an extent I don't feel sorry for teams that lose reviews on Umpire's Call. The system is there to overturn an absolute howler, and is set up to be able to overturn absolute howlers and absolute howlers alone.

If captains decide to review a marginal call on the off chance of picking up a free wicket, that's on them. They know about the margins before they make that strange arm gesture.
You're right, but it depends if you think it's reasonable to turn umpiring into something the players have to be good at.

Obviously you play the match you're in, and NZ have been rubbish at it, but I for one don't think DRS strategy should sit alongside batting, bowling and fielding as the 4th discipline in the game.

Same with union too. All sorts of complaining over the TMO throughout the tournament.

yeah 45AO was better than this. Got to watch some great bowling and it was all over quickly. This on the other hand...

Jeremy from Mel: "Is it true New Zealand's new DRS advisor has the name S.Watson?"

Great comment on Cricinfo(?) Technology being used to crucify the NZ captain and team rather than get the decisions correct. I thing Llong is at the level of Bucknor circa the infamous Sydney test. Big reputation but at least 2 of his 5 senses are defunct.

Not trying to sound wise after the event, but I went into this test with distinct pessimism after the mauling that was Brisbane. In my mind there was no way we'd were going to take 20 wickets here if we managed 8 in Brisbane knowing the WACA deck is generally true. As soon as I saw we lost the toss, I immediately thought 3-400 at stumps.

Exactly the same thing happening in union as well.

no idea where skyliner is coming from here

The game is still pretty fast in league, probably faster than it's ever been. For all the perceived gripes, the onus is still on the officials to get the decisions right, but technology has been incorporated into the process. At least they haven't thrown a hospital pass to the players and asked them to pick and choose which tries to challenge or not.

Both sides were kind of pessimistic no?
Indian fans on CW are naturally pessimistic, but the death-riding of the Australian side—which had just lost at Hobart, remember—was something to behold. Robelinda predicted we'd get whitewashed IIRC.

I'll give you the tip mate, as you have no idea. In rugby and rugby league, the players are not running around reviewing tries and head high tackles etc. The players play the game. Now do you understand, or do I need to simply the explanation further still?

Honestly can we just stop this "debate" with skyliner before we all lose some brain cells [non-mod]
