I'm not a fan of the Samit Patel inclusion. Part-time over-filling spinners we have enough, should have gone with the specialist bowler in Liam Plunkett even if it is a pace option. By all means select another spinner as we already have Anderson, Broad and Stokes, but not if they're not good enough, and I'd certainly say that's the case with Patel in terms of being a Test match spinner.

They won't stop hating him no matter what he does. He's got lots of crucial runs where the top order has failed... yet he's made out to be some downhill skkiier by most Pak fans. Stupidest thing.

How did Samit bowl? Last I saw of him he was better than part-time bowler standard, yet not quite International standard. Is he still the same or has he gained more revs and nuance?

To be fair, Pakistan have blocked themselves into a hole, not looking to play a shot in this session, so he's been allowed to get away with a few and been put under minimal pressure. He has bowled fairly decent areas tbf, but doesn't look a threat.
