is the balance between bat and ball to different between day and night with the pink ball? absolutely hooping under lights
Yes it is different, if you a quick you are going to love bowling flat out for a spell under lights.

Starc and Haze are obviously better bowlers but look at the other two games today, not much doing at all so I don't think it is a massive difference.

Well clearly Smith knew it would be this juicy, if his declaration is anything to go by there might be some funky tactics during the Test. Starc is as close to unplayable as you can be at the moment.

Yeah, I think quality is the difference. Siddle can get used to bowling in the Shield.

TBF we know that at some point, pink ball or no, Starc is just going to have it all click and start annihilating top orders even in FC/Tests. Given how he's been bowling of late, this might be the start of that.

How many times have you made this exact post though?

We all know it's inevitable, but damn Starceh loves a false dawn.

Haze looked rank in the Matador and for a large part of the Ashes plus Sidds bowled in daylight today

CA might say otherwise but reckon (hope) the selectors know what's going on with this ball

That's not to say that I would pick Siddle but judging Haze on tonight is lunacy

Just watched highlights, all three of the SA bats' dismissals were dismal. Full and straight and looked like they didn't sight them. Myself, I think it's a lack of familiarity with how to play the pink ball under lights rather than it being 'unsightable' as such. I mean, they're going to push ahead with the pink ball, no way are we just going to lose it again like the orange ball of the 90's so you'd think the players will just have to suck it up and learn as long as it's not actually dangerous. Thoughts?

It's about money (broadcast rights and gate takings) so players will have to suck it up

Can see some anomalies happening whereby a player looks a world beater depending on the conditions

What's happened to Sayers btw?

Guy could tear it up with a pink ball at night

Nice day for cricket at the MCG today. Not a cloud in the sky, warm but not hot. Typical Melbourne weather :)

Pattinson and Hastings got some movement out of the new ball but Buens and Henry played defensively against them
Siddle was first change, ran in hard.

Burns hit Ahmed for 3,2,&4 and then got bowled.

Maxwell also got hit around so it seems that the pink ball doesn't spin that well :)

Henry and Labuschagne chased the runs before and after supper. Henry hitting Maxwell for the only 6 of the day.

Siddle bowled 11 overs up till supper and then bowled his last 5 at the end of the day against Wildermouth and Reardon who weren't looking to score runs, so his figures flatter him a bit. He will probably get a few more overs in tomorrow.

Pattinson was impressive but Hastings did the bulk of the work and was the bowler of the day.

Henry was solid all day.

Didnt have a problem seeing the pink ball at anytime during the day, it showed up very well on the scoreboard screen for the replays. Only brief one discussion between Hastings, Quiney and Siddle with an umpire about the ball just after supper.

Highlight of the day was answering questions from 3 americans who just called in for a look at a game of cricket for an hour or so, about how the game was played and what the rules were. :)

The underlying problem with cricket administration, they do their crap for money & players have to suck it up.

I'm on the fence with this day/night cricket stuff until I see how things play out in Adelaide in a actual test.

I could be wrong, but I get the feeling depending on which ball they end up using that may satisfy everyone, day/night cricket might work in some countries (Pakistan in UAE) and not so much in others. AUS & ENG certainly don't need to play tests in night because they have best audiences for test cricket in the world anyway.
