Australian Domestic Season 2015/16

If they're confident he can get through the Tests then he should play, on a basic "play your best bowlers" basis. It's not like there's any doubt whether he's Test- and possibly world-class at times.

Pattinson, that is.
I was worried you were talking Stanlake for a sec there.

For NZ I'd say MJ, Starc, Siddle/Haze is the attack and fair enough even if I think there are some significant issues with that.

But if those four don't perform then I'd have no issue with Patto coming in v Windies at all if his Shield performances are as we're expecting. I've thought for a long time that Pattinson/Hazlewood would be our first choice opening pair when they were both cooked. Would love to see it this summer, just don't think I will unless we cop a pasting from the Kiwis and I'm not THAT keen on seeing Patto back in the test side.

Oh yeah that's what they'll pick. But I personally still think Patto is well ahead of Starc assuming they're both fit and firing. I don't really want Patto and Haze competing for a spot, they're really different bowlers in terms of the roles they'd play in the team (though Patto could converge towards Haze in terms of control without sacrificing his pace or aggression, then we could be talking Ryan Harris levels of good here)

EDIT: Oh I just realised that wasn't what you were actually advocating. Oh well, point stands.

patto is the best of all the young bowlers imo, just need him fit

agree with adub though, wouldnt pick him for NZ but would definitely consider him for the windies should he handle the shield

Not exactly overwhelmed with an attack of Haze, Starc, MJ and/or Siddle unless the first 3 have improved a lot since the Ashes - they were pretty bloody ordinary then and a few poles in a domestic one-day comp doesn't really prove anything

Yeah, definitely don't have them competing for a spot. Patto, Haze and whoever of the rest is best for mine. Starceh, NCN, Cummo, Berendorff etc can fight it out for the first change spot. Only injuries or someone coming through who was super human would change that over the next 4-5 years once MJ moves on (which might not be that far away) unless either really dropped badly below what we know they are capable of. Starc obvs has the jump on the field, but no way do I reckon he should be seen as a must pick with the red ball if everyone is fit and firing until he brings some more of his white ball voodoo to the red ball games.

Nor am I, but that's what will be picked from. You know MJ and Starc are locks for the Gabba with only a question of going back to Haze or hanging onto Sidds from the last test side to be decided.

Home conditions and a Kooka should make things a bit more comfortable for them though. I can just as easily see them tearing it up as getting carted.

I've been out for the last 3 hours so haven't seen Stanlake bowling, but he's got another good set of figures. Thoughts? Deserved em for good bowling or just getting lucky?

3 of them were at the death where WA were swinging hard. he does look pretty sharp though

I saw the last over. Pretty dead old pitch now. If he's sharp on that he'll be a handful. Would love to see him on super fast WACA deck. Doesn't look like he's gonna give you much to drive.

His run up and action look really nice and smooth. Not the sort of action that should lead to lower back injuries with exaggerated twisting or anything (touch wood). Ankles may be more a concern. Very, very early days, but **** I like what I've seen so far.

Haha he actually reminds me a hell of a lot of Peter George, tbh.
Superficially I know exactly what you're saying, which is why I picked him as an example.

But he looks a far more solid unit to me, is quicker and seems to bang it in a lot harder (I don't think Peter George would have got the one that bowled Tye to jag back like that off the pitch). I just really get the feeling early doors that he could develop into something special. Long way to go but.

One of the nice things of the early parts of a new season - getting a first look at some new rookies and speculating on how they are going to go.
