Which is exactly why he's not in lolol..Urgh. Not the kind of situation you want Rahane to bat in.

Clearly MSD agrees.Urgh. Not the kind of situation you want Rahane to bat in.
No it's not, Rahane is good enough to score run a ball. If it's like 90 off 60 then yeah you'd have a point but a run a ball or close to it run chase should be doable for most quality batsmen.Rahane with run a ball needed in the last 10 is worse tho
Nah Rahane really struggles with rotating the strike and finding gaps when the field is spread out. It's why he is better higher up the order than later in. He can take advatange of the fielding restrictions, and build a platform without having to worry about scoring quickly. No it's not, Rahane is good enough to score run a ball. If Rahane is not good enough to steer through a RUN A BALL chase in the last 10 overs, then he doesn't deserve to be in the team period. We're not talking 40 off 20 or 55 off 30 or something like that, we're talking RUN A BALL. Which means 20 off 20, 40 off 40 etc.Nah Rahane really struggles with rotating the strike and finding gaps when the field is spread out. It's why he is better higher up the order than later in. Exactly and that's why he needs to either improve or wait until someone in the top order has a horrible run of form to get a position at the top.Wouldn't say he isn't capable, he just isn't suited for it. There are a lot better batsmen we could pick if thats the role we are asking of him.
I think we get a lot more value with Rahane at 3 and Kohli at 4/5 than Kohli at 3 and some hack at 5. Rahane isnt just a magical batsman but also our best fielder, and Kohli has the potential to be a Bevan-esque finisher.Exactly and that's why he needs to either improve or wait until someone in the top order has a horrible run of form to get a position at the top.
FTR I rate him much more than most when it comes to finishing an innings.
I disagree with that notion because Kohli's value deceases if he comes in later on, so you have to choose between which of the two players are likely to offer more output from the same position. We are also seeing the value of Dhoni being able to come in @ 4 and effortlessly form a partnership. I love Rahane but it's just lame to try to "fit him in" and dilute the productivity of other batsmen.I think we get a lot more value with Rahane at 3 and Kohli at 4/5 than Kohli at 3 and some hack at 5. Which he did so wonderfully in the first ODI...Why would Kohli's value decrease later in the innings? He can hit big shots, runs hard, finds the gaps so well, and is masterful at pacing a runchase. If anything he's more vulnerable at 3, given he has issues with the moving ball outside his off stump.
Sample size of.1. GG. Rahane also has 2 fifties at 3, which suggests he is a good fit for the role.Which he did so wonderfully in the first ODI...
Really would like to see them give Rahane-MSD-Kohli a decent run for a while. If Kohli absolutely stinks it up at 5, then perhaps drop Rahane and start exploring the alternatives.IMO Dhoni absolutely needs to bat at 4, which means Kohli bats 3 because he'll be wasted at 5. That leaves no other option but 5 for Rahane.
