***Official*** New Zealand Domestic Season 2015/16

Zak Gibson. Remember the name. Young kid from down these parts. Big things expected from the kid. Right up there with Boult apparently as a school boy bowler, he's a handy bat though. He'll be the next young fella to crack 150k from NZ is what I was told today. Don't be shocked to see him play some domestic cricket this summer either as he was real close to picking up the last contract.

I'm not surprised that it is McClure, even on debut, who is the one trying to keep the Canterbury innings hanging together, and doing a pretty good job so far.

Having zero knowledge of Chch club cricket. But, I will still confidently proclaim :) that they should have given this guy his chance 12 months earlier.
I also have zero knowledge of Chch club cricket, but had been hoping McClure would feature given Paul Wiseman's Ross Taylor comparison. It might be a squeeze in the middle order when Henry Nicholls returns from NZA duty.

Young batting at 3 for CD this year? I wonder if that will be permanent, or just a one off because Rosco has pushed someone out of the lineup?

Who was 3 last year, Hay?

Would be a good move for Young to accept more responsibility at this stage and take on the more challenging role.

Dean Robinson did get contracted in the end, so I'd guess Young will be seen more typically at 4. Alderson did an interview with Young just recently I think, with an eye to him being the next Test No. 5.

If your the Auckland Captain your spewing, your senior batsman who is hiding at 5 scores 33 runs in four hours (removing chances of getting bonus points) and than gets out when the new ball comes.

Cheers for the article link,

Yeah, I definitely see him as next on the block long term for 5 post-baz retirement.

And what I have seen of him v spin (usually just looking at attacking shots only on the scorecards tbh) he is very, very rounded by NZ standards and will be suited there.

But at this lower level happy to see him also tested at 3 against the newish ball.

Shots off both feet also, so Hesson will approve ....

Read the article.

My opinion that Young looks good v spin based on such thorough analysis as seeing him use his feet v spinners on the video scorecard boundaries. ;) (admittedly, I see him do this regularly)

E.g. Opinion NOT based on viewing his defensive technique, use of crease, sweep, or even ability to tuck them off his pads for a single.

Therefore was interested in this bit of the article:
Young has previously sought innovative ways to improve. In 2013, he was concerned his technique against spin bowling was suspect. He invested in a return ticket to India for three weeks, with a trio of fellow Taranaki players, to work on his sweep shot, use the depth of the crease better and help combat the doosra and the wrong 'un by watching the ball out of the hand."
