Reason #117 in 'not actually a reason to declare'Time to declare? Just concerned about the weather.
Yeah but we need overs too. It's not like this pitch is suited to our best bowlers anyways. No need to declare. Grind them down. In fact I don't think setting Sri Lanka a chaseable target to "dangle the carrot" necessarily makes it more likely that we'll win. It just increases the chance of a SL win.
Instead if we set them a huge target and they pretty much are forced into a situation where they need to block and aim to survive, we have a better chance. I don't believe any of the SL batsmen have the technique to deadbat (apart from Mathews and Dimuth maybe) and play purely for survival. On the other hand, Chandimal, Mathews, Tharanga, Kusal, all have the game to go for a target and pull off a win.
The declaration wouldn't be to dangle the carrot. It'd be to have enough overs considering rain is forecast for tomorrow. No need to declare. Grind them down. I think we have enough overs anyway. Don't think SL will bat out 100+ overs. The declaration wouldn't be to dangle the carrot. It'd be to have enough overs considering rain is forecast for tomorrow.
https://www.reddit.com/r/im14andthisisdeepPujara has been the difference between the two sides. There were so many times in that first 2.5 hours he could have been out to Dhammika and he surivived it. All the credit to Pujara.
I wonder about the randomness of events though. Pujara could have edged one and Lanka could have won it. Pujara would most likely be back as an extra for a long term or even dropped had he edged one. It's fascinating this randomness which exists along with every thing else.
No guarantee of 100 overs with that recourse. Can rain for a session or more any time in this weather. Usually rains have come during the evening here.I think we have enough overs anyway. Don't think SL will bat out 100+ overs.
this and rain incoming at evening timeWith chance of rain tomorrow and Lanka batting not being amazing, no need to bat beyond tea.
