He's much more limited than Lucas, who is himself quite limited. He should only really play in big games or come off the bench to help the team hold on to a lead. I don't know if signing someone would help. The squad is as complete as you could ever realistically hope for, far fewer gaps than most of the teams Fergie won the league with. Wenger just isn't using it properly.

Yeah, but you're talking about the best manager in the EPL era (one of the greatest of all time). So...I'm not sure falling short of being Ferguson here is that damning.

Arsenal have challenged loads over the last ten years, for all the good it has done them. Their squad is better now than at any other point since the invincibles days, but unfortunately for them it has not developed in a vacuum. If they had enjoyed the current squad 3-4 years ago they'd have won the title by now imo. But, as things stand, I just can't see them winning it. Challenge? If challenge = lead the table for a while, get some good results, but have a few manky results and end up finishing 7-8 points begind 1st then sure. But win? I'd be amazed.

Would another manager do a better job with the same team?. Possibly, and I can see why some might believe that, but it's such a massive hypothesis that any view on the matter would be pretty hazy conjecture at best.

Which seasons in the past 10 years do you consider a title challenge?

IMO Wenger is a bit too loyal to his players and that's probably caused an element of staleness.

Yeah I'm with you there. He's the one that built such a good squad so it makes no sense to use it as a stick to beat him with. But the weaknesses he does have are what's holding arsenal back imo. His big game record is so consistently poor.

So Jonny Evans to West Brom for £8m. A couple of years ago it looked as though he was ready to take the next step and become the leader of United's defence in the post-Rio/Vidic era, but it's never quite happened and if anything he has regressed over the past season or two.

Hopefully the move will reinvigorate him - I can't imagine many United fans who wouldn't wish him the best.

Watched Real Madrid's opening game of 03/04 v Betis. Figo, Zidane, Ronaldo, Beckham, Raul, Carlos, Casillas. Zidane delievered a flat cross which Ronaldo converted as fast. Any one can finish as good as Ronaldo in today's football?
