Hmm, disagree that temperament isn't more important at 3. Not sure what exactly you mean by temperament, but Pujara's patience and grit and ability to consume plenty of deliveries in tough conditions even when he's not batting fluently makes him a very good choice for 3 imo. Especially with Kohli coming in at 4,who's obviously shown weaknesses against good out swing.

Prasad's pitchmap has been impressive this match. Nothing to the leg side and few those were well outside off intended to set batsmen up i think

I'd actually still have Rahane at three and Pujara at five even if Dhawan was opening, but the fact that the openers are pretty conservative is something I thought might support my argument a bit so I added it to my post.

I'm basically just digging up the old technique vs temperament chestnut. Assuming both are going to be in the side (which I think everyone on this forum would agree on, even if Kohli and the selection panel don't), I think their technical strengths and weaknesses make a stronger case for 3-Rahane 5-Pujara than their temperamental strengths and weaknesses do for the opposite.

What we really need on here is Ian Chappell to argue that he'd pick the batting order based on temperament but still have Rahane there because he likes the #3 to take the game to the opposition, just to confuse the whole thing further.. :p #intent

If India decides to continue with it's five bowler theory, the number 5 will have to be adept at batting with the tail. The conventional way to do that would be to score a boundary within the first three balls and then take a single on the fourth or fifth. I don't think Pujara has the range of shots to implement that..

What an innings from Pujara. WAG. Came in under immense pressure. More pressure with the batsmen falling around him like nine pins. And he has done this. Should always be there in the team, atleast in the SC.

Why is Rohit having such a special place? Whenever he comes into the squad, he is in the XI. Haven`t seen him carrying drinks much.
