What are these, OOC?
1. South Africa - 283.33
2. Australia - 266.50
3. India - 219.25
4. England - 209.25
5. Pakistan - 205.00
6. New Zealand - 198.33
7. Sri Lanka - 166.67
8. West Indies - 134.17
9. Bangladesh - 67.50
10. Zimbabwe - 50.00

India will drop down to 212.58 if they lose those game, but go up to 225.29 if they win - but either way they'll be third.

Only Nohit, Binny and Ohja to come after these 2.... I think the Indian team management is being just a little bit casual with the batting line ups, Rahane at 3 cuz Rohit can't play in challenging conditions, Binny in because he was in the previous test match and the team won. Just seems like they are using this "we are aggressive and willing to be flexible" argument to justify just about any decision they make.

Don't know how good a keeper Perera is
thirimanne at #3 is yuck. has to open if he plays imo. only good for blocking which means he can blunt the new ball.
I was going to make a post about how India would drop below England on the Test cricket rankings that matter (ie. the ones I made) if they lost this game, but as it turns out England losing the fifth Test means India would stay third even if they lost this game. Damn you England for depriving me of my fishing.
at first glance yours look the same as the ICC ones:p

I sort of agree but they don't really have anyone else at the moment. They just had to drop Mubarak again, and he was replaced by Tharanga. Cupboard is bear so they're digging through the trash can, essentially.

India are actually 6th on the ICC ones, but there is very little difference between 2nd and 6th on theirs. My rankings take home/away games into account; they probably experience more 'lag' - ie. teams that get better/worse take longer to move under mine - but I think they're more accurate at measuring how teams have actually gone in the last few years, particularly at the moment given everyone seems to be winning at home and losing away.

this won't be popular since he's quite a good opener but the best way to shuffle the deck chairs if thirimanne must play imo is swap kaushal and thirimanne

karu
thiri
kaushal
mathews
chandiguns
anyone but mubarak and tharanga
perera
some bowlers

Tharanga is one of those very few left handers who play off spin well. He took Ashwin to cleaners on few occasions and Swann once as well. Problem now is that he is selected for a test where pitch is doing for the seamers. He would have been gold for Galle and PSS. Looking at this green mamba, Mubarak seems to be a better bet. Selecting KJP on this is actually a very positive move. He enjoys some pace.

tough on silva if he has to move to accommodate thiri. if thiri has to open, one of the openers has to be dropped. asking tharanga to bat at 3 all of a sudden might not be a good move. mathews admitted the dilemma in their batting order. somehow they have to find that ideal balance with the limited resource
