*Official* Fifth Test at the Oval

Went to the kitchen for a snack, who the **** called for that? Or was it a "new ball's round the corner, might as well" review?

Seems a long time ago now that both captains talked about wanting a bowl.
I suppose it was understandable after the last two tests, but it was always going to be a long shot at The Oval. As it is, Cook will probably end up regretting batting last here.
Still, if you're going to make that mistake, it might as well be in a dead rubber.

Not that I've seen much of it today. I get the impression England have bowled reasonably well but the Aus batsmen have actually gone out and done their jobs and a few things haven't quite gone England's way. Is that a fair summary?

Voges seems to be spectacularly lacking in shots. Front foot defence and clip through leg off the front foot. He doesn't even seem able to play off his hips.

Still, good partnership setting the game up for the crime.

Davey's come out in the old suit pant and belt for the post-match interview. New VC's version of #classy.

Only saw about half the day. I thought England bowled a bit too short early. Were a couple of lucky things went Australia's way too. Weird how that happens when you're applying yourselves...

I honestly feel so much happier going forward for Australian cricket after last night

I think the penny has now well and truly dropped with our batsmen that when the conditions are challenging, we need to really take off the tuxedo early doors, and slip into the blue overalls and the King Gee boots

The whole 'attack, attack, attack' mantra should give way to 'apply, apply, apply'

Very optimistic. Lets see how we fare after a dominant series win at home. See if we revert back to the apply, apply, apply mantra.

Very Watson like effort from the Aussies first day, dead rubber and all.
TBF the guys who have runs today have showed glimpses through the series of this potential it makes me hope they'll show their grit next tour.

Is there a worse commentary combination than Ian Botham and Shane Warne? Struggling to think of one..
Are you serious?

Just off the top of my head ...

Ian Healy, partnered with anyone
James Brayshaw with anyone
Rameez Raja with anyone

And immeasurably worse than Beefy and Warne.
