My poor blind eyes briefly saw kyle mills walking in, bat in hand. Before the commentators dispassionately informed me it was Mitchel McClangaghan

Didn't matter in the end, but what is journeyman and tried and tested 36 year old failure Van Wyk doing opening the batting? I understand dropping QDK but surely their has to be other wicket keeping options in the country?

Haha. If I had my tinfoil hat on I may suggest it has something to do with Hesson, or whoever not wanting Sodhi to flat out replace McCullum.

Well he sees himself as potentially a pretty awesome closer, Mitch. Munro is a bit of a batting mentor for him apparently.

International Vice-Captain
On Sodhis batting. What I have seen so far is he is pretty awesome v spin especially seeping and hitting straight. This is red ball orthodox batting.

Against pace ive not been very impressed, and in very limited sightings in white ball cricket at the death I've also not been impressed. Yet.

I assume he will get much better, but I don't see his batting talents as very death-adaptable at this stage.

thoughts:

1. If this tour isn't last chance saloon for Nathan McCullum I don't know if he'll ever be dropped. His fielding is his best contribution at this point. With Milne and Sodhi looking pretty good with the bat, we also don't need a specialist number 9.

2. Ronchi is dreadful. I know he played a couple of nice innings before the world cup but he's never been much more than a pinch hitter and his glovemanship is shockingly poor now. Watling has to make the squad next time.

3. Munro deserves his shot.

4. Need to see more Ben Wheeler and Matt Henry on this tour.

Oh, another thought:

That match could've been really ugly if Latham and KW weren't there to play out Steyn's first spell. I didn't watch it but it sound like a quality period of cricket in that period.

Also, Milne bowled a 5 over spell yesterday. Baby steps but we might be getting there in terms of his fitness.

Does anyone, presumably Kippax but its open to all persons, have further details of Sky TV not being able to secure the broadcast of the games.

How close Sky is to getting an agreement? The price being asked for the broadcast, etc.

So Milne's pretty good huh. Have enjoyed the handful of highlights I've seen of him bowling this series and is looking better than he did in the World Cup.

A little disappointing to not get 79 from the last 10 overs with 5 wickets in hand, though we know our lower order is not so great right now.

NcCullum and McLeakin getting a few consolation games after missing out in the World Cup, and that's fine while we're missing so many other players, but they are going to have a very hard time holding those spots when we're back to full strength.
