Just went through the last couple of pages to be introduced to ideas like:

1) Sir Jadeja not only be picked, but bat at 6
2) Binny be picked
3) Pujara play as wk

Fmd.

On Jadeja, I think his role was not defined in test matches. If SL had a player like him he would play at #7. The issue I see with Indian cricket is that coaches fail to recognize players abilities and fail to give a role in the team for them. SL is pretty behind India in talent but we know how to identify roles for each player. That's how we converted off spinner in to batsman who averaged 45+ in test matches (Samaraweera), and a two middle order keeper batsmen in to a openers (Dilshan and Kaushal Silva), and left arm spinner in to a ATG ODI player (Jayasuriya). Everybody has their roles defined.

If Jadeja had a role defined and he kept playing according to it, now he would have hit gold for India.

Pity you haven't converted someone into a decent pacer since Vaas.

Pacers has to have pace. You can't change Chris Martin in to Sangakkara, nor Syed Rasel in to Brett Schultz. This is about working with what you have.

On teh side note we have carved few decent pacers off the soft ball league (Nuwan Pradeep and Shaminda Eranga)

Perhaps one reason India have not done the "identifying and converting" when it comes to batting is because of the options available. You already have a KL Rahul, Rohit Sharma, Kedhar Jadhav and others knocking on the door, you don't feel the need to convert Jadeja into a middle order batsman.

IMO the reason we haven't been able to convert Jadeja into an effective player with a well defined role in the lineup is because he's a dumb ****.

He's undoubtedly talented in certain playing conditions. He's got just enough cricketing intelligence to make the national team on the back of performances in familiar conditions, but sadly not enough to adapt to changing situations and conditions elsewhere.

I suppose it's a matter of horses for courses. Jadeja is undoubtedly a good choice for SC conditions, and we could play him here and dump him outside the SC. But that wouldn't be fair to whomever replaces him outside the SC. The idiot's either got to learn to play well everywhere or not play for India at all.

Somehow refuse to believe there is no fringe all rounder who can be given a go to play at 6/7 and carry fifth bowler's burden other than jadeja/bunny/axar. Ranji circuit can't be this void or is it?

Best after them are Rishi Dhawan and Parvez Rasool. They are not better than the above 3 you have mentioned.

Let's not go down that route hey. Ashwin, Mishra, Bhuvi will be fine at 7-9 imo. Saha needs to start delivering now. He has what is required. He now needs to prove to himself and the world that he can score test centuries once in a while.

Uncertain. May turn out to be not good enough.

Saha needs to be discussed because he is the make and break between this strategy being a "5 bowlers approach" and a "5 batsmen approach". And it can be said he is a pretty thin thread to hang that on.

It seems a little perverse to me that when India had a keeper who could reasonably have batted at 6, as well as Jadeja and Ashwin at 7 and 8, and Kumar at 9, they pretty much always went in with 6 batsmen and 4 bowlers. (This is right isn't it? That was certainly my perception...) Now they have a keeper who seems unlikely to be a genuine number 6, and no allrounder beyond Ashwin, and they decide to go with the 5 bowler thing...

Yes, it is silly. Drop Harby and pick Pujara, simple.
