Any updates on NZ's tour of Oz later this year?

Yes, Yes, Yes. You've got the spirit, I'd love to see Ronchi in the side. Tora, Tora, Tora!
The reason I mentioned it is because if Ronchi plays, then BJ bats 6, that leaves the team without a spinner if Neesham plays 8, to carry Milne, Southee, Milne and Boult in the tail and in the field for some 'toil' overs.

Neesh doesn't like high quality spin. Could be a way to rate Lyon.
You're jumping at shodows Grumps, afraid something could go wrong when it's clear it'll likely play out as per the following scenario:
He'll hit out agressivlely, he won't sit on his heels, he'll get down to the pitch, nullify the spin, and succeed doing it. A glorious counter attack from Néesh, hitting Lyon out of the attack.

I think you've named Milne twice.

I'd like to watch that. Sounds brilliant. Almost as good as hearing "New Zealand has thought about it and has asked Australia to bat again".

All right lads its been a slice tonight. Special thanks to Skyliner and Grumpy for the chat.

We have another 4 months to wait so I don't know what we will discuss tomorrow and the next 120 days. But I am sure we will manage.
4 months to wait. I'm having myself frozen in carbonite, crated up and put in storage, and come late October shipped to the Jabba.
I mean to say: Gabba.
I'll have hibernation sickness for the first session at least, but I just can't stand the waiting.

I enjoy hearing your passionate enthusiasm for NZ cricket.

Are you working on some crowd chants, Barmy Army style?

Twice the Milne. 300 kph should get through an Aussies defences, even one born and raised in Western Australia.

What's Dean '(just tricking about being the) next cab off the rank / triple century' Brownlie up to? Club cricket in England?

You want to swap him for Jackson Bird?

I'm keen.

Seriously, we give Australia Clarrie Grimmet, and what have they given us?

No, but I honestly think that the Beige Brigade and NZ Cricket should note the significance of this Gabba test and the fact it is the 30 year anniversary of Hadlee's 9/52 and the marvellous performance of a wonderful NZ cricket team. Hundreds to M Crowe and J Reid, a victory that launched us on the path to a test series win on Australian soil - our greatest ever achievement,
The Gabba test is always the most special to me, it's always the first test of our tour.
I am trying to get as many Kiwis to this test as possible. QLD is home to many expats and I reckon anyone who loves test cricket and thinks we have a pretty amazing team should be there. We are spoilt to live in these times and be able to watch the likes of KW, Ross, Boult, Southee and Baz. These guys are NZ ATGs.

Grimmet was more daft NZ selection shenanigans. He couldn't get anywhere here, the Aussies would have seen him for the weapon he was, and the rest is history. Aussie selections are based on 'you don't cut it, you're gone, no sentiment; but we'll give you the chance'. Ruthless but born out of the desire, the need, to win. And it works.

Yeah - this team could well be better than the 1980's side, even without Hadlee. But people forget that that 1980's side beat a crap Australian team. It was not losing to the WI at home that made that side special.

And Siddle?

Actually, you've made me think of something.

Why could we not get an Australian seam bowling coaching instead of Dimitri?

I mean we could never get a high profile Australian coach for the national side, but we could surely get one of their former quicks? They have so many of them.

It was still an Aussie side that they expected would beat us easily. There's a piece in either Coney or Haldees book (rythym and swing) about how the NZ team went to the Aussie season launch and were treated to a patronising couple of speeches from the Aus hierarchy where they were basically told they were the easy beat entree before the big clash of the summer.

Ha. That would've been a bluff by the Aussie hierarchy. Hadlee was the best bowler in the world at that time. Crowe was beginning to fulfill his potential.

Australia was a rabble at that time. The greats had retired, Kim Hughes was leading rebel tours, Thommo had been coaxed out of retirement to bowl in England ashes in 1985, Border didn't even want to be captain...

McDermott I think debut'd in 85 Ashes. Boon was fairly new. Merv Hughes and Dean Jones were about to be on the scene. Rackerman, Alderman and Lawson were around, but there were rebel tours and probably injuries.

Their batting was piss poor. Nothing against Hadlee. He could have done that to a World XI (and basically did the next year against the West Indies). Hadlee was still creaming Aussies when Australia was back on top in 1990 with a classy batting line up.

The great man speaks to the great man about that test.

I know it's de riguer to say that was a crap Aussie side but it had Alan Border, David Boon, Kepler Wessels, Greg Mathews, Geoff Lawson, Craig McDermott, Greg Ritchie in it....hardly a pack of no names.

I watched the full 1.5 hour Benaud Hadlee special just the other week!

Boon was new. Wessels was a fighter at best. McDermott like I said was starting. Greg Richie? C'mon. Greg Mathews was a bits n pieces bat and not a real threat with the ball (tied test hero and all).

Hadlee and Crowe's finest hour was the next season in my opinion. The West Indies...

They beat us in the second test at Sydney, but I hear what you are saying.
