Looking at the reserves, there are binny, axar patel, dhawan kulkarni and ambati rayudu. If jadeja is to be replaced then someone better batsman than jadeja as well as a good striker has to play and also he has to fill some of the quota of fifth option. Is axar patel or binny good enough with the bat to play in that role? I dont know much about kulkarni but looks like a bowler first. Rayudu can't bowl so he's not an option there. Who are the other guys to fit the role?

Think he's the one calling all the shots in the dressing room right now, given that Dhoni's influence is said to have reportedly declined. Not claiming conspiracy, just that Shastri's brain works differently. Remember him talking about dropping Rahane or Rohit for Raina in the test team.

dropping yadav is fine, he doesn't have the control needed to bowl on decks like these
