*Official* New Zealand in England 2015

I've been hearing the "bigger bats, smaller boundaries" mantra for at least a decade now. Has become one of those classic sporting cliches that gets dropped all the time like its a startling new fact, just like the trusty "rugby season is encroaching more and more on cricket season" (super rugby has been around for donkeys years), and "has international rugby league become farce / do we need international rugby league" (always been played by a handful of teams). The bats should literally be as big as barn doors by now.
This series has been about woeful bowling and batting mindset change where both McCullum and Morgan have said to their players "wack the cover off it". There can be tinkering with rules but ultimately the only thing that can truly arrest scoring rates would be seaming wickets, and then you'll see sides bowled out for anywhere from 80 to 170 again in the 1st innings....which will be another kind of boring.
ODI cricket has issues, issues which ultimately stem back to the fact that is a truncated version of the superior game.

Tough to see NZ winning the 5th after that performance from England. They really look to have the wood on NZ's bowling attack, while Wood & Finn look quite impressive.

Much as these run fests are making me sick, it's good to know England are capable of playing this way. Well done to them on topping 300 each time around!

I suppose this is the sort of cricketing porn that David White has in mind when calling for those extra ODI's against Aus.

Right lets try to find ways of putting a downer on this performance.

Well if the last cycle is anything to go by, we can look forward to being a great team for close to 3 years before thoroughly capitulating in the lead up to the next world cup.

That's better.

First series after the 2011 competition we played a 5 match series against the runners up and won 3-2 playing some really good cricket.

I despise this thin plagiarism of cricket. It just isn't a contest what's going on out there - regardless of whether NZ or England are winning, how should a bowler go about their craft? Yes, the better bowlers are still returning superior figures in general but "good" bowling figures now seem to be going for 'only' 50-60 runs whilst if you're off your length or line in any slight way then you'll be pounded out of the park and go for a 100 runs. From what I saw of this match this morning, and the highlights I've seen of the preceding ODIs, I don't have any interest in watching this pap.

Congrats to England for chasing down 350. But seriously these super high scoring games are ridiculous. There is nothing in them for the bowlers. I wanna see a contest between bat and ball.

Sadly I can't see anything changing anytime soon. The English press are really glorifying this. For example, this, and this.

I fear for the art of bowling, I really do. It has become peripheral to the game of cricket. Enhancements are made to batting, but never to bowling. Uck - I should have been born a batsman.
