I've been hearing the "bigger bats, smaller boundaries" mantra for at least a decade now. Has become one of those classic sporting cliches that gets dropped all the time like its a startling new fact, just like the trusty "rugby season is encroaching more and more on cricket season" (super rugby has been around for donkeys years), and "has international rugby league become farce / do we need international rugby league" (always been played by a handful of teams). The bats should literally be as big as barn doors by now.
This series has been about woeful bowling and batting mindset change where both McCullum and Morgan have said to their players "wack the cover off it". There can be tinkering with rules but ultimately the only thing that can truly arrest scoring rates would be seaming wickets, and then you'll see sides bowled out for anywhere from 80 to 170 again in the 1st innings....which will be another kind of boring.
ODI cricket has issues, issues which ultimately stem back to the fact that is a truncated version of the superior game.

I despise this thin plagiarism of cricket. It just isn't a contest what's going on out there - regardless of whether NZ or England are winning, how should a bowler go about their craft? Yes, the better bowlers are still returning superior figures in general but "good" bowling figures now seem to be going for 'only' 50-60 runs whilst if you're off your length or line in any slight way then you'll be pounded out of the park and go for a 100 runs. From what I saw of this match this morning, and the highlights I've seen of the preceding ODIs, I don't have any interest in watching this pap.

I fear for the art of bowling, I really do. It has become peripheral to the game of cricket. Enhancements are made to batting, but never to bowling. Uck - I should have been born a batsman.
