This is the series of awful bowling, by NZ. England cotton-wooled their experienced seamers, and at the same time have embraced attacking cricket, whereas NZ adopted this style of cricket ages ago.
So NZ have been able to take advantage of the inexperienced / ordinary England bowlers, yet our bowlers have been unable to restrict England in any way - besides one late order collapse having that effect.
Boult proved that it was possible to get through 10 overs at under 6 runs an over while picking up wickets, so it's very disappointing that McLeakinruns, Southee and Henry can't do something similar. It's just woeful bowling, as if its acknowledged that there will be big scores so it's ok for everyone to drop their standards.

Has this been the kind of contest between bat and ball that has gone on all series? It seems a pretty dismal cricket match to me. Okay, the bowling hasn't been great at times but it seems like a glorified open net session really.

Yeah, what a contrast from the Pakistan series where Southee and Boult were sitting out FFS (TBF Pakistan were batting much like pre-WC England). But this is the first time in a while the bowlers have been truly under the pump. No swing early on has made a huge difference.
McCleneghan on thin ice I feel. If Wheeler has one more good game and Milne returns he'll be on the outer.

Was watching sky sports news last night and the difference in strike rates for our bats this series v Odi careers is somewhat staggering. Obviously this is only a few games but, yeah.

Just been doing some playing around with statsguru.
Feb 2007- April 2011 the average ODI innings had 219.
May 2011 - September 2013, the average ODI innings had 219 runs.
October 2013 the average ODI innings had 240 runs.
ODI cricket had kind of stagnated for a few years in terms of run scoring but has exploded in the last couple.
