That I can definitely agree with. I don't like Triple threats either. Somehow feel something called a "main event" should be 1v1.
Then surely you agree with me that Cena vs Punk in the WM main event was almost as big a miss? Those two had such unbelievable chemistry, and the match they had on Raw just before WM 29 was wrestlemania worthy. They would've torn the roof off the place.
It's funny thinking about that era because I was a kid and everything was absolutely real to me. Feels weird thinking about smarks in the attitude era. I actually read a great post on reddit a while back which had screenshots of old wrestling forums filled with people complaining about how Rocky Maivia didn't deserve his push, then enjoying the hell out of Nation Rock and reserving particular praise for how hilarious the People's elbow was.
I think the moment at the end of that WM has blinded people to the sheer stupidity of that storyline.
To me, it just comes off as nothing more than a square up, and I'm sure no-one at the time actually thought the rock was gonna double up. It would have been like a two falls out of three match actually finishing at the second fall (aka, unthinkable). So does it really do anything for Cena's legacy? Getting a victory over probably the biggest superstar in WWE history at WM is great for the legend. Except he lost the important one and got a gimmie a year later to make up for it. Meh. If the rock was cool with losing, and taking it a piledriver, he could have just lost to the undertaker instead! which probably would have created better sales anyway. then Punk might get his headline and Cena probably gets the win anyway. everyone wins.
Had been done to death throughout the year leading up to that point I guess. Not that HHH v HBK at WMXX hadn't, but still.
It was a great match but, well, see Srizza's post actually. To be clear (and I'm not suggesting you've accused me of this) it's not that I don't like triple threats I just don't see them as Mania main events. When you give a wrestler their big moment, be they a child-killing murderer or Daniel Bryan, they should beat the champ one on one.

Hmm maybe but the big miss that came about through Rock V Cena (be it 1 or 2) was Cena V Taker. I've said this as many times as Jono has said he hasn't watched wrestling since 2006
Except Rock V Taker has happened many times and for some unknown reason has always been **** (that's four filter stars not Meltzer ones)
See, I agree generally, but would probably make an exception for Bryan. I thought the fact that he had to beat all of Evolution in one night, and gave each of them a beat down individually really helped him look good. From a narrative point of view it helped with the whole Yes Movement vs The Machine angle they had been running as well imo. The way the whole thing unfolded was pretty perfect imo. Honestly don't think it could have been done any better (which is ironic given the original plans for that show).

Should have opened with evolution triple threat that ended with HHH winning the title by pinning Booker T, despite him not being in the match (from the effects of the pedigree at WM19, which he's still down from) and then had Bryan beat HHH for the belt
