I should be really happy for Bournemouth but I can't feeling ever such a tiny bit bitter that it is not us instead. That and they have spent a load of money, I don't resent them for doing so but nobody ever seems to mention it.

Yeovil did the same with Loans, can't say I really get it, there seems a fairly obvious flaw in that system. Mind you Brentford have had a fair few and seem to be doing alright.
We were the same last season and that was why we got relegated. If it hadn't been for the chairman getting his appointment of Mellon right we could easily have been in trouble this season as we only had a handful of players last summer, had room to get new ones in but you never sure if it will work or not.

Enjoying the former Bees front line for NY Red Bulls. I know MLS is a funny old league but I can't quite believe Mike Grella gets a game.

I might have asked this before, but where have Bournemouth suddenly got money from? For years, they were the club in the football league closest to being chucked out. In administration a number of times, penalised 30-odd competition points overall, bailed out by the fans a number of times. Did they find a sugar daddy?

Yeah, it is the reality though, you need a certain level of investment to compete. It is not like they have outspent the other clubs at the top of the Championship or anything, it would still be a massive achievement but what it is not is some small club miracle.

RE loans - short term ones are the devil, we've had the most this season and hey look where we finished. Most of the time they've not been any better than if we'd thrown a kid in there from our academy

The season or half season ones have generally been decent.

...... and ironically enough it is doubtless the existence of the academy that will make your stay in the conference a brief one

It needs to be for the academy to continue to exist in its current guise - apparently you get funding for one year after relegation - after that, academy funding is pulled.

Yeah that is awful. Hard to square that sort of thing with the FA's apparent determination to produce more home-grown players too.

They don't want homegrown players down there though. If we develop quality players ourself, where are the Prem & Championship youth players going to go out on loan to?
Yeah, in the end there are advantages to being in an area with lots of big clubs, you can get players to move there easier, less travelling, and better quality loans. Yet in the end poor cachement area, and your yoof system must be under huge pressure from teams around. Exeter are lucky in that way, but the other things can piss you off.

Still, GIMP, look on the bright side it isn't disastrous.

Yeah, it was a scary thought when we went down, thought things may have changed since then but obviously not. Crazy that clubs get the funding pulled, almost like they want them to fail/go under.

Heh. Caused a bit of a stir with our fans, those words. I think he means that the work they have been doing will continue and that it's a setback rather than a death knell. But it feels like a disaster. I certainly drank like it was one on Saturday.
