IPL 2015 Thread

This Hooda chap looks promising, just 19.
He is the future of not just cricket, sport, but humanity. :D

Finch getting injured probably a blessing in disguise for Mumbai, Simmons was awesome last year unlike Finch who was stinking the place out.

Yeah what's the payment system like? Always wondered re exact specifications. Yuvraj has a 10 crore contract say. Does he get it over two years or one and based on how many games.

I guess Mumbai lost the game with the ball, the score was pretty good if you consider the pitch,

Rohit needed to rotate the bowlers well. Vinay does well in such conditions, he should have completed his 4 overs right at the start and tried to sneak in one more wicket, he is anyways not useful at the death.

Gopal was out of the attack as soon as he was hit for a couple of sixes by Hooda, Hooda plays spinners well, but he was out in the next over. Gopal would have been a bit more threatening. And there was no need to complete Suchit's spell in a hurry, Rahane and Smith were comfortable against him, Rohit should have rotated him with some other bowler at that point of time.

Dropping Rayudu and Tare was a pretty lame decision aswell. Tare can score a quickfire 20-30, he was never a good choice for the top order, he can be useful in the lower order where he can just go out and attack. And Tare batting at number 3 is the most random decision I can think of. And as much as I hate Rayudu, he is a very important part of that MI batting lineup.

Our young players are pretty bad captains, Kohli, Rohit and Dhawan's captaincy is terrible to say the least. Raina looked bad in the one series that he captained for India. Not sure what the future will be like once MSD retires from all formats.

Steve Smith's innings yesterday was nearly the perfect example of building an innings and accelerating in a run chase.

He has done that a few times now, especially in Odis with a couple of tons chasing. Are we going to see the emergence of another ATG chaser?

I think he will be much more than a ATG chaser. He will be a ATG batsman.

Mumbai Indians need to take a leaf out of CSK's/RR's book and develop local players, instead of shopping at the auction table or travelling to watch foreign leagues. Were they not watching the Mumbai Ranji team have at least two decent performers (Shoaib Sheikh and Sid Chitnis) in SMAT? Or their own player, Suman, lead the SMAT batting charts? Same bloke they let go during the auction? Or Rohit Dahiya and Rush Kalaria, who took plenty of wickets to help Gujarat win the title?

Instead, we saw them bid for Aaron Finch, Vinay Kumar and Parthiv Patel. Look at Vinay Kumar's performance in the last season for KKR, and also Parthiv Patel's strike rate, then decide. Then look at existing squad member Lendl Simmons' record last year. Unsurprisingly, they haven't won a game.

They may have to shake up the lineup a great deal. Three poor games for Finch and maybe Malinga should have both on the bench- they have Simmons and de Lange waiting. Why, even Tare, with decent T20 figures and a good SMA season behind him, getting benched for known T20 misfit Parthiv Patel is baffling- as also Chappell's Boy Unmukt Chand getting a game. They haven't handled their decently-fast bowler Pawan Suyal and leggie Gopal well at all- both need to be played into form over a stretch of games, not rotated with the likes of Jazz and Suchith. They may also need to pack the top order with Rohit, Simmons, Pollard and Corey, to stand a chance of posting big scores more often- but not give Pollard or Corey a single over if they wish to strengthen their bowling.

Whatever it takes!!!
One other thing MI are doing wrong is the team balance.. I mean if you are playing the West Indian KP and Corey Anderson at 5 and 6, you don really need 5 bowlers after them... I would have shopped for Badri at the auction and let him anchor the side from 4, put Tare in as the Indian finisher after Pollard and Anderson and bat Rohit, Simmons and Rayudu, in that order at the top 3. Rayudu is not awesome but he can do a job as a #3 at the IPL level. This would free them up to play Bhajji, Suyal, Gopal and Malinga as the other bowlers. Add in Rohit, Simmons to the 4 bowlers and 2 all rounders and you got 8 bowling options (4 specialists, 2 ARs and 2 batters who can bowl)... Why on earth would you not select such a side?

You can put in Chand for Badri maybe?

Rohit *
Simmons^
Rayudu
Chand
Pollard ^
Anderson ^
Tare +
Harbhajan
Gopal
Malinga ^
Suyal

EDIT: I had forgotten that MI did not get Badri in the auction when writing the XI down :)

I still can't fathom why they moved Rohit to 4 in that last game. Has to open, he's far and away their best batsman. Arguably the best in IPL history.
