Your Duffy love may get rewarded even further in the coming months ...
And they called it Duffy love
Oh to watch him in full flow
Gives me stains down to my knees
Which is why I love him so

And they called it Duffy love
When he debuted in his teens
The way he moved the ball
Gave me very ***y dreams

I can report first-hand that he bowled pretty well yesterday. Had stints from both ends and troubled the batsmen right through to the end of the day. Wagner again bowled too short, and threw in his 2-3 customary dives onto the pitch after bowling.

hmmm

So, he is likely for the limited overs part of the England tour?

Mills shuffling on, Southee usually rotated out for overseas ODI series.

Ball change shenanigans the order of the day in NZ domestics as well as internationals:

Break In Play: NORTHERN KNIGHTS - 138/7 in 43.0 overs (AP Devcich 77, IS Sodhi 4)
Ball change after 43 overs
Break In Play: NORTHERN KNIGHTS - 140/7 in 43.1 overs (AP Devcich 79, IS Sodhi 4)
Ball change after 43.1 overs

That must have been one shoddy ball to be replaced after 0.1 overs.

ND have really struggled with the bat in this game. Without Anton Devcich (of all people) they'd be toast.

I struggle to see Duffy getting a callup over the winter - just doesn't have the numbers yet and there's a lot of competition for places (even assuming that Southee and Boult play a limited part in the LO games, there's still Mitch, Mills (maybe), Milne, Henry and Corey/Jimmy to fill up the seam bowler duties. Could see him getting a game or two next season if he continues to succeed. It's a pity, I really would've liked it to see Bond get a chance to work with him. Ah well.

Good to see Jeets taking out the trash at the Basin.

Yeah a Duffy call up would be at least a year too soon, and Bracewell + Wags deserve a bit of incumbency.

I think Henry and Duffy will be better than Bracewell by next year, tbh.

Also there is the fact that in the pre-test tour games NZ will be IPL-less.

So remove Southee, Boult, Mitch, Henry, Neesham.

NZ's squad for the tour games should be a mix of A players, non-IPL test players, and ODI specialists turning up for work 3 weeks early.

So you need at least 4 seamers for coverage in those tour games you've got Bracewell, Wagner, + 2 out of Mills, Milne, Bennett, Duffy.

If Mills retires or is shuffled on, if Milne is injured, then Duffy is nailed on.

The tour squad is going to number about 25ish to maybe 30 players, but not all at the same time.

My theoretical squad for the tour games.

15 players (probably too many) assuming all available.
Also assuming Mills, Elliot, Vettori move on.

Latham
Brownlie
Guptill/W Young
Taylor
Ronchi/Munro
N McCullum
Watling
Craig/Astle
Bracewell
Milne/Bennett
Wagner

So, for cost reasons, about 5 ODI specialists come over early and stay on as spectators for 2 weeks during the test series.

Plus 1 youngster (eg Young) as a fill in for the tour games.

The odds are that these guys won't actually be playing for their frontline sides, and so will probably be released early. But even if they aren't, New Zealand aren't going to fly over guys who have zero chance of making the final 11 just because they want a full team for the warm-ups. If it comes to that they'll just get some local ring-ins to fill out the team.

If NZC turn down the chance for a mini A-tour at no extra cost then they are mad.

Immenso has the right idea.

Bahnz doesn't.

Immenso, it's a yes from me.

Nice to see Badenhorst pop up again, even if he's changed provinces. Bennett is back too and taking wickets. Good times.

What is a Josh Finnie? Someone mentioned in this thread or another thread that he had big wraps on him down in Otago. Spin bowling allrounder I'm guessing? Batting allrounder or bowling allrounder?

He's a batsman really. Bowls offies too but his future is as a bat. My sources in Dunedin tell me he's not exactly looked the goods at FC level. I think there may be a touch of dissent amongst the cricket fraternity that a kid has been rushed straight in there on the back of not a whole lot and ahead of guys who've scored a lot more runs in recent years.

So, Duffy did overtake Astle as top wicket taker in that last round.

Great work young fella.

Those two pretty much neck and neck heading into the last round.

So, he has statistically out bowled his team mate Wagner this season.

BTW. D Bracewell has fallen away as the season has gotten later. Maybe he needed that enforced break, or needs better late season wicket skills?

Yeah Bracewell on a sluggish wicket isn't good viewing.

Pretty nice wicket quality from Duffy, not quite the big butch third seamer to come in after Bouthee we were hoping for yet though. He hasn't had the chance to use Auckland's swing and bouncier clay to take a haul yet; that's coming up.
