As Kiwi fans, how would we want the Sri Lanka/Australia match to go? If Sri Lanka beat Australia, it looks like it might be a re-run of this match in the Semi-Final providing Australia and New Zealand get through the Quarters that is.
From an NZ perspective, wouldn't mind an SRL win as that would most likely set up an SA v AUS qf, eliminating one of the big threats at an early stage. Can't see it happening though.

SL are severely underrated. I'd rather face Aus.
you're nuts. if we want to hope for an easy road to the final we don't want to play the one team who have pushed us to the limit.

i don't care who we play in the knock outs. to win the thing you can't do it by hiding from the best. whoever you play, get stuck in.

I think I'd like to play the Aussies in the final. I think we would do better against them than against SA or India in Australia.

I don't know, I came away from that match thinking NZ are not much chance of rolling us if we meet again in the tournament. When Maxwell and Marsh chopped on the writing was on the wall that we were short of a gallop, that should have been markers laid. Tournament looked like it was about to be set up enormously. But by match's end it felt more like there was a question mark over NZ's ability to handle genuine pace than anything else. If we meet again, I think it's far more likely we make runs and they don't than the other way around.

people who don't watch odis at eden park to stop commenting on it pls

300 is hard there unless you bat very well because of the pitch and the usual auckland conditions.
yes but unless the bowlers bowl well, the batting team will score big which is back to my inital point that bpth teams bowled well..

i just watched the six again over and over on the herald website and realised for the first time ian smith completely lost his mind. i was too busy losing my own at the time to notice.

This is not a shot at NZ!

BUT explain to me how a "fair" contest between bat and ball involves 45m boundaries, fielding restrictions and calling wides a millimetre outside the tram lines when the batsman has backed away 2 feet before the ball is delivered

I didn't watch much of the Oz innings (only saw the "highlights") but when McCullum can outside edge a cover drive for 6 over 3rd man, there is something very wrong with the balance of the game
You clearly haven't watched much of Brendon McCullum then. He's hit countless 6s from thickish edges in that region & on much bigger grounds than this.

It's the hand-speed he generates which makes it fly.

Just seems counter-intuitive to moan about short boundaries when neither side could muster much more than 150.

Really enjoyed Smithy & Warne's banter today & so did Warne judging by his tweet.

Anyone saying this match is proof of anything other than these two sides can seriously bowl is coming to a very weird conclusion
Nah holes in batting ability/shot selection exposed here.

Look both these teams have gun bowlers, but don't tell me that Twatto, Clarke and the two chop-ons were good bowling. Same with McCullum, Vettori and Anderson's dismissals. There was a **** load of thrown away or sloppy wickets. That's okay, that is ODI cricket. But there was some poor batting on display. It made for a ****ing awesome match to watch.

Yes, but people who have evidently only just discovered the dimensions of the ground today coming in here saying 300 par and 400 likely are living in dream land because the cricket played here every summer has shown it's not true. the nature of the pitch, auckland atmosphere and the ground dimensions make for cricket matches which leap from extremely bowler friendly to extremely batsman friendly depending on the quality of the players involved.

bowlers have plenty to work with at eden park if they bowl well. teams get rolled here often. the windies rolled NZ here just last summer. some people refusing to get this point is what is annoying people.

Wasn't talking about ground size. Probably should quote the post I was replying to, was a post irrelevant to this weird ground size debate that is happening.

In fact why are people even arguing about ground size ffs. We just saw an amazing game. This WC has had some crackers this week, and in between we've seen Gayle and AB do ridiculous things with a cricket bat. Get around this World Cup.

Sure, but that's more evidence of potential mental frailty under big match and crunch situation pressure rather than anything that other teams can exploit cricketing wise.

Like, some people are saying that this makes SA favourites, somehow.

Which team got the most out of this game ?

NZ for winning by just falling across the line or Oz coming back from the dead ?

I think Oz would be happier, having almost saved a game that they batted and started to bowl poorly in.

NZ would not be happy, firstly with letting the Oz last wicket pair put on 40 runs and then not controlling the game after being 1/70 odd when chasing. A win with 2/152 or even 5/152 would have given them confidence they could do it again.
They would think they were lucky to get the win, not that they could roll Oz next time they played them.
