Why is it England always seem about 5 years behind the rest of the world when it comes to their approach in ODIs?

I mean they look to target 10 an over in the last 5, when most teams aim for that rate in the last 10 overs these days. So frustrating.

What an absolutely awful effort at a last 20 overs. 131/8. So much work has to be done with the batting in the latter middle overs and early death overs.

So I make that 78 off the last 10... fairly ordinary on a good track with wickets in hand.

How come Broad is so **** as an ODI batsman? I would've expected him to be able to strike at a decent rate at least. Not even close to being an ODI all-rounder.

They kind of recovered it in the last six or so overs. But the 34-44 over period was just awful. Went at almost half their run rate when they had wickets in hand.

He was a much better batsman at age 19 than he is now at 28....which is mental.

Hmmm...could be an interesting chase if Scotland can get through the initial new ball burst without taking the same kind of damage they suffered against NZ.

That was my earlier point...their approach suggested they only starting looking at 10+ on over off the last 5 overs. They seemed content with 6-7 an over from overs 40-45, which is why I say they seem 5 years behind the times.

Yeah I definitely agree. The cliche is England are too slow at the start but it's probably those five where they don't go big enough.
