What would you lot think about the playing a Premier League game abroad thing? I mean we all instinctively hate it but guess it would be a pretty big deal.

I am opposed. The only real driver of playing a competitive game overseas is money (so far as I can see anyway), and there is plenty of that in the Premier League as it is, the recent huge TV deal notwithstanding.

Football is too much like a business (as opposed to a game) as it is in my opinion. The idea of playing a game overseas just conjures up the words "franchise expansion" in my mind - anything that can be done to arrest football's decline into corporatism is something I would likely get behind, though I suspect it's a lost cause nowadays, the wheels have turned too far.

I loved Poyet's rant included 'I wish we could build a big wall around Sunderland to keep you lot out'

So do we mate. Here, have some bricks.

As for the overseas' game, my only compromise I'd possibly accept if they decided to have a sort of end of season play-off style thing for a trophy that may or may not become worthwhile - sort of like the America style post season's, but without the prestige (that should stay with winning the regular league). Take the top 4/8 to different countries every July (up to say a week before the Charity Shield - maybe even host the Charity Shield overseas) and play it then.

The more I think about it, the more it makes sense. Its a friendly that is still important. A trophy clubs want to bag but don't cry too much if its lost, both teams have been touring only to come back in time for it (half the time they are in the same country and playing a friendly tournament against each other anyway), and one the fans won't worry too much if they can't get to (though will be slightly disappointed as they do enjoy the Wembley day)

Its got the right balance of importance - not too much to cause uproar, not too little to be a patronising offer to the host country. No matter where it is it could fill a 80,000 stadium.

But alas Wembley has to be paid for.....

Having pre-season friendlies abroad would definitely be better than some worthless post-season competition where the players are just phoning it in because they're worried about injuries and/or are mentally on holiday already.

Besides, the football season is plenty long enough as it is, especially in the UK where there is no winter break. Adding more games to it, wherever they happen to be hosted, would just be overkill and would serve no benefit other than to line the pockets of the fat cats.

My suggestion was although it was a post season thing, do it a week before the Charity shield or so - in other words make it part of the pre-season warm up.

Now I've a dilemma, I backed no goals tonight at 10-1, but with a money back caveat if its a draw at HT with Utd to win. Now I know I shouldn't lose out, but I'm quite tempted by a free £50....
