5th Match - Ireland v West Indies

Look mate. There is no way I'd talk up England over Ireland right now as I'd rate them a bloody decent chance to roll us..........that same England didn't have much trouble taking India down twice in the tri series. You do the maths.
I have done the maths, we were experimenting in that series giving guys like Raydu a run out Sharma was rested/injured and Kohli one of the best number 3s batted at 4. Yet in the must win game you still struggled to chase down a poor total of 200. I would be very confident of facing England and I think you do England a disservice they are one of the weaker Test playing teams in the tournament but I think they would beat Ireland despite that freak loss last World Cup, Ireland were 150-5 and recovered to chase down 300, was probably a lot of complacency there from England, I doubt Morgan a former Irish international will let that happen under his watch.

It would be so great if Ireland, Zimbabwe and Afghanistan sneak through to the quarters. It would spark lots of "death of various teams and cricket in general" articles but it would be the opposite - despite the best attempts of the BCCICC and the Evil Big Three Alliance to keep the party to themselves the lesser countries are still getting better.

It's not out of the realms of possibility. Zimbabwe put in a strong showing against the best team in their pool and India are just one batting failure away from game on. Pakistan are in a rut and the West Indies need to pick themselves up fast. In the other pool England have a proud history of finding novel ways to screw up ODI tournaments and Bangladesh have one of the worst fast bowling attacks in the competition. Plus Aus/NZ/SA/SL could just have a really bad day at a really bad time.

It's highly unlikely but I believe!
Yeah good chance of that happening. Only problem is that Zimbabwe and Ireland, two "minnows" playing well, are in the same group and can ruin each other's chances. Ireland has to go past Zim even after this great win.

i did say that i wouldnt be surprsed to wake up and find Ireland had won and so I am not !! Well done Ireland. I genuinely think that West Indies wont qualify at the expense of either Ireland or Ziimbabwe. I do think that Pakstan will get better as they are usually slow starters though...Clive LLoyd must be regretting his disciplinary decision of leaving out ther best two players now..

Lel what, there are easily 4 other Test teams far more dire than England, five with India actually.

As for Morgan I doubt he can control what lands on his dinner table right now let alone whether Ireland beat them.

India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, West Indies are all worse than England in these conditions

Yea I wouldn't back India to beat England 100%. India might win due to Kohli's chasing godliness + England crumbling under big-match pressure while defending, but England are just much better in these conditions. And they should beat SL quite comfortably.

Ireland themselves lost to Scotland last week as well as Bangladesh so it's not like this result is exactly the start of a great new team because it isn't. I don't see ireland beating any other Test playing teams in their group, so providing West Indies can, order will probably be restored, still something for the Irish players and fans to tell their grand kids about in years to come, but ultimately this result will be insignificant as far as the tournament goes.
Logic you can choose:

a) West Indies are a poor team beaten by another poor team.
b) World cricket is more competitive than just the top 8 sides in the world, and Ireland is one of the teams that is becoming good.

You cannot simultaneously call Ireland a crappy minnow while also championing West Indies cause.

The saddest thing from a WI pov is how predictable this was.
Yeah, that's the thing. No one's calling it an upset at all. Lots here picked them to win it. I'm pretty devastated for Holder at the moment... I rate him as a cricketer but captaining such a bad team governed by the most incompetent board in cricket (which is saying something) has to be the most demoralising job in world cricket right now.

Brilliant, just brilliant. Went to bed with it at 120-5 and thought they had a chance but to do it how they did it is amazing.
