Classic case of doing so well you devalue your own performances here, given that Smith has scored against literally everyone he's played in the last year and a bit
I remember thinking around the start of the Ashes in 2013 that Australia were in a really tough spot with their batsman due to all the really tough fixtures they had. When Smith came back Australia's next 15 tests came either against strong attacks or in really tough conditions for an Aussie batsman, or even both. He was the only Australian to play all of those 15 tests and came out of the other end with a really good average from it and is now cashing in.

Imagine giving him stick for it. FMD.

sour much?
Seriously though, the bowling he has faced this series will probably be some of the easiest he will face in his career. He's batted very well but I imagine many batsmen would have filled their boots in similar situations. Warner already has. Williamson, Sanga, Kohli, BMac, Rahane, Misbah, Chanders, Younis, and probably a few more would have racked up tons of runs too.

It says a lot that pretty much every batsman Aus has put out, and several of the bowlers, have scored runs this series. Even the out of form (Rogers, Haddin) and unreliable (Watson, Marsh) have gone ok.

This is a pretty poor attack bowling in conditions that they struggle in.

Chappell mentioning Cook there really makes me want him to be good again, that India series was so great.

Don't want Smitteh equalling Cook's captaincy record, so he'll have to make a duck in the first Ashes test. Sorry.

Just got home to Watto out and another TPC ton. I just knew he would ton up. Wish we could bottle this form.

rahane could easily turn out to be the best of the lot so that's silly
Being part of the 'etc' doesn't demean him in anyway...FTR, I wasn't meaning Rahane & Hague belong to that next level down of Chandimal & Latham.

In terms of style, Rahane, Bravo & Williamson are probably my favs, but haven't seen much of Smith to be fair. Don't personally think Root is that great on the eye.

it'd have to do it by hand but I could probably do it later in the day
ok so I didn't include a) anything before his 09 Ashes comeback and b) a handful of 2 or 3 test series that were 1-0 going into the third test in which the trophy may have been secured already

I think his dead rubber average is 45.21. However, since the 13 Ashes, it's gone up to 67.4, including today

Then why did you say with "Haque" Chandimal & Latham to a lesser extent..

And since minnow bashing is the flavour of the day why is Root in the upper tier when all he's done in Tests so far is feast in home conditions off dire bowling.
