I think it was a combination of two things. Most importantly, England bowl best when they have plans and often go to pieces when they don't. They didn't have a plan for him. As soon as they got one - after the ton, basically - he struggled. The second factor was that it was an extremely flat pitch at his home ground and England completely messed up their first innings.

That should be the last we see of him in test cricket. It's sad to see him fail but that's it.

it's the change in mindset that matters though - it means you're not trying to cut every short ball.

Like I said at the start of the match, this comes down to whether or not New Zealand gift wickets or make Sri Lanka pay once they've got starts - two starts, two stupid shots, two wickets.

If one of Williamson, Taylor or McCullum don't make a big daddy ( 150+ ) - this will be a doddle.
