So we're well ahead at this point, now it's a matter of finishing the tail so as to minimise the damage Sanga will heave on us. A lead of 100 will be swell.

Boult will get another go at Sanga in the morning. I'm not gifting him those runs just yet, the pitch is doing quite a bit.

That puts us firmly ahead and Bracewell deserved that wicket, even if he was a little lucky with his first two.

I feel strangely confident that after our batting today was disappointing, we'll do better in the second innings. And therefore fairly confident that all we need is first innings parity here, i.e. bowl SL out for 220. Instead a lead of perhaps 70 looks on, which would be match-defining.

PJ as nightwatchman.
They had a nightwatchmen for him last test ffs.

****ing hate nightwatchmen shenanigans. I remember the Lords test in the 2013 Ashes, Broad batting at nine, got a nightwatchmen. Batting at nine ffs. To make matters worse, next innings, Bresnan, our number 8 was used as a nightwatchmen. Makes no ****ing sense.

So was Jayawardene batting as a nightwatchman or is Chandimal, a specialist batsman, batting at 7?

Edit: As already pointed out ^

Bracewell is going to be a superstar. He offer's the same natural variation that Wagner provides, but hits the deck harder with more zip. I feel sorry for Milne and Henry.

Sending out a batsman as nightwatchman is ******** anyway, why is PJ defending Chandimal? He's the more proven test player.

Thats two tests in a row where the majority of our wickets have been given away. Imo, it's because we get really comfortable facing the Sri Lankan bowlers, so forget that the pitch is doing a bit. Neesham just straight out played down the wrong line, even if the ball didn't move, it most likely would of ended up in the hands of second/third slip.

He still feels kinda fluky as a bowler, and hasn't fixed his noball problem yet. Could be great though.

The only times I've seen him get such returns are on greentops. Seems a limited bowler to me, although he obviously did bowl well today.

He's bowled well. The real test will be when he bowls on a flat deck, with an old ball, to set batsmen. He was woeful in Bangladesh, lets hope he has his plans sorted out.
