Was wondering why Carl Cachopa hasn't been in the Aces squad, thought he may have been injured. Interesting to see that this is not the case. Just goes to emphasise how spoilt for batting talent Auckland are at the moment.

Haha. I was looking back at the 2010 under 19 World Cup squad a few days ago and was wondering whatever happened to Mattie Thomas. Low and behold there he is playing for CD A today. Still can't believe to this day he made that squad over Mitchell Santner.

Are Canterbury and Wellington the black holes for player development? I would have thought Tim Johnston and Kyle Jamieson would have played more for Canterbury by this stage?

I remember Mattie Thomas being the more prominent of the two at that tournament. I feel like Santner only turned up halfway through and played the last few games. Was a few years ago, mind you.

I wouldn't say that Canterbury is doing too badly in terms of player development. In recent years they've brought through Brownlie, Anderson, Henry and Latham. They're certainly doing a much better job of bringing talented young players through than Wellington or Auckland are.

Johnston needs to bowl in non-NZ environments basically. A really canny management would send him off on NZA tours despite his lack of success thus far.

Craig Cachopa continues to dominate too. Meanwhile, the A tournament is underway. Pleased to see Ken McClure do well for Canterbury A, he sounds like quite a promising player. Also Auckland A opener Glenn Phillips with 99. He was last years cricket winner of the ASB College Sport Young Sportsperson of the year. Dipak Patel rates his younger brother Dale too.

And a guy who prefers cricket to rugby got an excellent century for CD A.

"It [rugby] has been put on the back burner," he said. "Rugby is definitely not on my mind at the moment. I know there is more money in rugby but at the end of the day it's what you enjoy the most and I enjoy cricket more than rugby."

update: George Worker out for 194! An expensive day for Henry & Bennett, although Aorangi Oval in Timaru does tend to produce high scores.

Aorangi Oval really is one of the flattest decks known to man. Bowler's graveyard. Coupled with a quick outfield and fairly small boundaries, it's exactly the place for another CD player to get close to 200. Still a spud though.

NZC's collecting video from the game at Bert Sutcliffe Oval each day, by the looks.

Canterbury making a pretty good fist of their chase for 406. With Henry & Astle they might still have an outside chance.

Glenn Phillips, yet another Howick Pak success story. Dead set certainty to at least play a lot of FC cricket, and very soon. He's a bloody gun. Keeps wicket and bowls handy off spin. Don't know much about Dale but I'll presume he's a superstar too. Brothers in law of Lord Don Grobbelaar

Anyone know why Milne didn't finish an over? Hope he hasn't gone and injured himself again.

Edit: scratch that, he just finished the game off. Rance and Noema-Barnett each bowled incomplete overs too though.
