Santner's scratch handicap golf smarm is hated down in Dunedin, apparently. Get him to put in a big one against Otago next.

My experiences of Auckland bowlers changed greatly from more recent times to 10 years ago. Now, you get guys almost exclusvely >125km who swing it out of the hand. Guys like Matt Quinn, Deano Bartlett etc stick out like dogs balls as guys who hit the deck with any great venom. Apparently Brett Randall is of a similar ilk. Previous to that, you'd get guys who hit the deck a lot better, and probably did rely on seam rather than long swinging HVs that expose poor club techniques. And obviously the average age is significantly lower.

Played in Auckland 17's alongside Greg, interesting chap to say the least, but means well and could definitely get it through, Brett Lee wannabe action and all. I always wondered what happened to him as well, cause he took the opportunities he got well and then became T20 specialist.

Some rough maths.

Henry's FC career. 15 matches 62 wickets.

Overs 1 to 20 (first new ball spell): 21 wickets.
Overs 81 to 100 (second new ball): 13 wickets.

Overs 21 to 80 (old ball spells): 24 wickets.
Overs 101 plus(second old ball): 4 wickets.

Now most of his old ball wickets are in the 20th to 40th over range rather than 60th to 70th. Eg 23 of his 24 wickets in this range are between 21st and 49th range.

Doing this little analysis left me even more impressed with his record, as I count only 11 of his 62 wickets are tailenders ( guys with no FC hundreds and career ave below 20, based on my memory - and for the Surrey game just based it on batting order )

This is me just looking at the scorecards, and seeing what over he took wickets in and tallying then up. I looked at when new ball taken in his first match (81st over) and applied that logic to all matches.

Choosing a third seamer at test level for the first time us always going to be a bit if a punt, as if the guys any good he'll be opening for his province.

Yeah Henry was so short today for an EPOO game, the pitch map was like a 2012 Adam Milne sort of effort. Interspersed with more of his legspin slower ball variation, so it seems he's not to even in contention to win the boring good length outswing role off Mills or Southee now. He was auditioning for a less vanilla role today, and not particularly well.

So him being a new ball bully was a figment of someones imagination. Excellent.

Yes but with one nuance and that is Immenso did say he had very few wickets after Over number 49.

Definitely he can take wickets with a ball without the new ball shine on it - but not necessarily with a really old beaten up thing. Ross Taylor for the record says he started scoring big hundreds when he made the insight that it swings somewhat until the 40th over and if you can last until then there are free runs to be had afterwards. So Ross would say a ball 20-40 overs old has movement.

This is lame. Why is this Day person playing even if he is getting 50s. Shouldn't developing Matt Taylor be an objective unto itself. There was always going to be an a learning period for him Walsh and Blundell but now they are out of the lineup.

Woodcock should be dropped too - rah rah end rant.

I thought Day had been picked primarily for his spin bowling in the absence of Jeetan Patel? Today he batted at number 8. Day has a New Zealand passport so presumably could be eligible to play for NZ in future, or at least be a long term Wellington player.

I read that as he was getting into his 50's, didn't think Wellington was that desperate.

Jeet Raval and Carl Cachopa both turning out for Auckland A. Could be some bowlers who really cop it here. Quite the fall from grace for Cachopa too, we were mentioning him as an NZ prospect not long ago.
