I think that a bit of the niggle in the series could well have affected the decision too. If they aren't getting on out there, then there would have been a bit of "Why on Earth would we give these blokes a sniff?" flying around their thoughts.

Nah, never liked it tbh.

There's not much to be touchy avour. As Vaughan said after the third Ashes test in 05, "Look at those blokes, celebrating a draw...."
Have to say it was embarassing to watch Mark Nicholas congratulate MSD for the draw. WAC.

The thing I don't get with Australia is why apart from Agar they haven't made any changes to the team for the fourth test.

The series is won - surely you can afford to experiment a little particularly in light of the fact that Australia's next two series are way from home.

I would rest Johnson personally - why risk him for a meaningless test when you have the World Cup around the corner and you know he's crucial to your chances ? I would give Starc a go or see if Siddle still has something to contribute.

Also, surely now's the best time to drop/rest Haddin and try a backup keeper ?
And Watto is doubtless the worst specialist batsman to have played for OZ in the last 25 years - Australia Imo are definitely better off dropping him for good and picking another young baseman for Sydney.

1. It's just the end of the fourth test. Agar was literally added to the squad minutes after (before?) the test ended, wtf. There's a week to Sydney.

2. Agree resting Johnson could be a good move. I would bring Siddle back.

3. Haddin should stay imo. Idk I like him. "Biased?" you bet but oh well...

4. Yes drop Watto, sadly has disappointed too much and should have been dropped quite a while before despite his reasonably good bowling. Maybe we could try Cowan.

This was probably brought up last night but KP referred to Watson as a 'machine'

I cannot believe I'm reading the paper & journalists are questioning whether Wato should be in the Aussie team! Ridiculous! He's a machine!

I wouldn't drop him but he's a pretty damn faulty machine.

Nah, pick the best XI, its what the Sydney public deserves.

I haven't been commenting much the past week or so, but I want to point out that Burns second innings dismissal is a very Joe Burns type of way to get out. I think he showed some decent traits and it was easily one of the best (but definitely not best) 9's on debut.

Also, I've never laughed so much at an Aussie getting out as much as Marsh on 99 today - what a complete waste of an hour/hour and a half.

I highly doubt they will send some half arsed side into Sydney. The second day is Richie Beunad day.

Watson averages 28 with the bat and 56 with the ball in the last 3 years. That's just mind-blowing.
jeez thats bad . I've always been an admirer of his performances from 09 ashes to 10/11 ashes but with those sort of figures, its pretty hard to continue with him . mitch marsh cant do any worse despite being prematurely picked.

you know, why is agar even in the squad? just wanna see how he's going?
Mark Waugh forgot to change the Shield stats filter from alphabetical to leading wicket taker and saw Agar up the top.

EDIT - Dermo Abbott very unlucky to not get selected!
