I'd take a guess that it's due to Wasim's legacy. A whole generation grew up idolising him so tended more towards bowling left handed than in other places.

The problem that plagues these players is they are all lacking in some aspect. Junaid lacks pace, but IMO is our best bowler because of his smarts. He reads batsmen well and picks the spots to get them out. Having a few bad matches and is injured so he's going through a bit of a lull. The problem potentially could be that due to lack of pace, batsmen can eventually figure him out, but so far he has been very good.
Rahat has swing and a bit of pace but he is very inconsistent and is wayward. Imran is the same.
Tanvir has swing but no pace, Riaz has pace, no swing, and no control.
All have bits and pieces of good bowlers, none have an all-encompassing repertoires, and the lengths they pick are very bad at times.
Irfan and Junaid are probably the best but compared to the better teams they are simply above average.

Rahat is the one to watch out for in the future. He really impressed me with his swing and seam.
Wahab will be amazing if he learns to control and swing the ball.

Completely forgot Ehsan Adil. I'm really looking forward to seeing him improve. He looks like a Philander/Asif type bowler.

He was bang in form then and had a superb A tour of India. This season he has lost his radar a bit and has been both expensive and wicketless.
Peters has been in devestating form and Beaton has improved as much as Cummins has regressed. I really like him and hope he gets it back but he is defiinitely dropping down the pecking order as it stands.

I am surprised you are more excited about our bowling than myself. I don't see anything long term from any of these players except Mir Hamza and Ehsan Adil (slipped my mind, good call).
Riaz is now in his prime and will never figure it out, Rahat is very wayward despite all the tools he has.
It simply feels as though this generation of bowlers minus Junaid does not use their brain and just think they can get away with sheer talent and not hard work. Many of them I see no movement and they stay stagnant.
By comparison to the worlds best, we are mediocre at best and given our batting woes, we are destined for mediocrity.

I think as a stock of five bowlers - you've got three who in the last two years have stood out as international class and have been setting up many of NZ's recent victories - the problem is if you lose Southee then you're left with Boult who is inconsistent due to his weapon being swing and Wagner who at the moment isn't looking as sharp through the crease as he was last ear.
Henry looks like a very good prospect, seam, movement, bounce and good pace. Bracewell is there or there abouts - then you've got Wheeler and Milne who have the pace, but I think ultimately Milne will be usurped by Wheeler. The most promising thing about the NZ side is that you could feasibly see Wagner, Southee and Boult form our combination until 2018 at least - Wagner being the oldest would only be 32 and realistically so far, this generation of our faster bowlers don't seem to have the injury concerns of the previous generation. If Henry and Wheeler are able to place pressure on Boult and Wagner for positions then we look pretty good for the next 5 years.

Mir Hamza's inswinger is crazy. He swings it miles but can also bowl the outswinger. This guy is special.

Plenty of good quickies in Australia and I'm loving that. 10 wickets in limited overs and 20 in Tests go a long way to winning games by restricting overs and runs. These days, the best way to dry up runs and partnerships is to take wickets. It's a tough one atm, I am going with 2014 and those who are performing at domestic level as well, not reputation or past performances.
