I think the fault was wiith the footage and sound that was not in synced properly. Poor.

There was clearly two sounds though.

But the second sound was perfectly aligned to the ball hitting the pocket, so
the only conclusion is that the first sound occurred as it appeared, with the ball a good foot beyond the bat (and the sound was a muffly bump on Snicko, not a sharp spike as an edge would have been).

Yeah. He's just too inconsistent. Sure he will always have the potential to destroy batting orders, but he is too unpredictable.

That was a disgraceful decision. I hope management make a right fuss of it afterwards. We're having a hard enough time as it is without things like that going against us. There is simply no excuse for TV umpires getting things that badly wrong.

Hold strong boys. In the past when something like that happens the whole team gets affected by it and displays zero mental fortitude. Now would be the time to change that!

Are you really surprised? it's happening in most series these days

1. Roach being given out when we were just 35 runs away from winning the third test in Australia and drawing the series

2. The blatant Pujara catch that everyone saw on the replay but the 3rd umpire gave it "not out" and he went on to get a ton

3. Clarke decision being overturned despite no evidence to suggest the umpire got it wrong

4. Southee? overstepping and still letting the wicket stand

5. And now this madness that has happened to Smith

I can take the odd mistake..but this is an over growing trend now where 3rd umpires are screwing us over even when the evidence is quite blatant. I'm gonna be sending these incidents to the WICB now and hopefully they will lodge a complaint...enough is enough now .

I can understand your frustration, but you're hardly the only team getting poor decisions. There are just some awful umpires out there right now, and everyone's getting some shockers.

Agreed. Also I think the poorer quality teams, like ourselves, often suffer more because more chances and shouts are generated against our batsmen and therefore the umpires are under more pressure.

I don't think it's a conspiracy theory at all but this mistake was bad enough to merit a complaint from the WICB and the severe reprimanding of Reiffel. We simply can't have that level of incompetence at international level, it's unfair.

Yeah definitely unacceptable imo. It's pretty shocking how umpires get away with such awful potentially game-changing mistakes. Unless Reiffel had access to a different camera angle or a snicko replay which synced up properly with the footage showing that the snick occurred when the ball passed the bat, he has zero excuses

Umpiring is his job, and being incompetent at your job means you need to pay a price. Umpires just seem way too protected to me these days.

You're not the only team which has suffered at the hands of tv umpires either. It's just incompetent umpiring.

If you look at the frame after the ball hit the pocket, the ball passes but the sound still registers.

The decision could have gone either way... But there were two undeniable sounds... How cant there be more frames per second in replays these days?

Regardless, I hardly think there was 100% concrete evidence that it was out, which is the established precedent for drs to overturn the on field decision. There is no way anyone can be 100% convince that was out. Its just baffling inconsistency from the umpires.

Yep there is not 100% conclusive evidence to overturn the onfield decision so it should have stayed not out... But i still believe it was out. So it is a matter of opinion... By no means is it a shocker.

To read WW you would imagine they are the ONLY side to ever get a bad one from the tv umpire. Every side has good and bad ones just the fans conveniently forget the good ones and focus on the bad.
