***Official*** New Zealand Domestic Season 2014/15

International Debutant
I actually agree, I think Flynn is done as an international player. But he was pretty hard done by second time around. One test against South Africa at home, his comeback test. Then went, two tests in the West Indies, India, Sri Lanka and South Africa before being dropped again, before the home series against England. Not to mention being shunted all around the batting line up.
Very much so. Particularly, given he looked pretty good opening in the brief opportunity he was given. In his comeback game opening against South Africa at the Basin he got 45 off 156 balls. Duck, in the second innings. Then he opened in the Windies and got 45 off 156 balls, then 20 in the second innings (out both times to Narine).

And that was it for him opening.

Injured and missed the second test. Then got moved down to number 5 for the India, Sri Lanka & South African series. He did ok, in Sri Lanka with two 50's, but struggled in India and finished with a pair in his last test in SA.

I guess he paid the price mainly for never kicking on and getting a big hundred, but it's a shame he never got a reasonable run as an opener.

In other news, Henry Walsh & Matt Taylor set for first class debuts for Wellington. Matt McEwan on 1st Class debut for Wellington after playing previously for Canterbury. Franklin & Patel out injured.

Pretty inexperienced line-up for Wellington there.

And I found out about Mark Houghton's injury. Some shoulder issue which means he has no issues batting or bowling, but can't throw the ball in from the deep. Funnily enough, I've got exactly the same injury at the moment.

Michael Papps (c)
Brent Arnel
BJ Barnett
Tom Blundell
Mark Gillespie
Matt McEwan
Stephen Murdoch
Michael Pollard
Matt Taylor
Ili Tugaga
Henry Walsh
Luke Woodcock

What will be the batting order here

Depends who plays, but Barnett is an opener I think, so it could be:

Papps
Barnett
Murdoch/Pollard
Pollard/Murdoch
Walsh
Taylor
Blundell (wk)
Woodcock
Gillespie
Tugaga/McEwan
Arnel

Potentially one of Walsh/Taylor won't play and they play both Tugaga and McEwan, but not sure.

I can't believe I ate the whole thing
Vincent, OK. Had forgotten that he had a 1 test "3rd chance". 15 tests 2001 - 2003 as opener or #3. 7 tests 2005 as middle order bat. 3rd chance, 1 test in SA in 2007 as opener again.
Actually he was No. 3 in that SA Test but Cumming got his face smashed so he had to open in the 2nd innings. One wonders what would have happened if Bracewell didn't drop him because he made his feelings known about opening when he's a number 4.

Ditto. Must be the season for it. Rotator cuff? I did mine attempting a run-out with my body in a poor position when I made the throw. Bloody hurts like buggery when I try to make an overhead throw now, but is otherwise completely unnoticeable. Weirdest injury I have ever had,

Blundell seems wasted at #7.

He's been batting at #6 for years.

Franklin at #5 looks weirder when you remember his batting style and that he used to be a bowling allrounder.
Yeah, Blundell's a better bat than Matt Taylor and I would say Walsh as well, though if he's keeping you probably wouldn't put him above 6.

Yeah, that's the one. I've been to the physio and he's helpfully told me my shoulder muscles are also completely imbalanced, which probably caused the injury to happen in the first place. Apparently, I'm going to have to learn how to throw completely differently which'll be 'fun', no doubt.

I did mine about 2 overs into the new season when I fielded the ball in the covers and attempted to throw the stumps down - halfway through the throwing action, something happened in the shoulder and obviously the ball went off in an unintended direction. Sounds a bit similar to your injury? All very amusing for my team mates, until it became clear I'd have to field for the remaining 48 overs without being able to throw overarm.

The Dominion Post is saying that Taylor will be carrying the drinks, so I guess:

Papps
Barnett
Murdoch
Pollard
Walsh
Blundell (wk)
Woodcock
McEwan
Gillespie
Tugaga
Arnel

Bloody horrible looking tail though with 3 number 9/10s and a genuine number 11. Wouldn't be surprised to see Walsh back lower on debut. Six or even seven.

Hira gone for a duck opening the batting, good to see. Canterbury's line up is very zzzz.. Not alot of real talent there.

Yep, just like. With mine I felt a little ping, like someone twanging a rubber-band, in my shoulder as it happened. The ball went in the direction I wanted it, but only traveled a couple of feet - which my team-mates thought was hilarious (except for the captain, who was annoyed at the run-out gone begging). I was in the covers too.

You're not winning a Plunket Shield with Ron as your opening bat. The experiment should've been canned when Gillespie cleaned him up trying to hoick one over cow in the first half a dozen overs.

Yeah I can't believe it's still a thing. Fair enough as a way to balance their limited overs sides, but FMD, not in the Shield.

At least swap him with Astle. :p
