The ATG Teams General arguing/discussing thread

International Coach
Barbados
Gordon Greenidge
Conrad Hunte
Frank Worrell
Everton Weekes
Clyde Walcott
Garry Sobers
David Murray
Malcolm Marshall
Joel Garner
Wes Hall
Sylvester Clarke

That's a handy XI for a country that size.

We should try to compile the greatest all time state/county/first class XIs. To be eligible, a player should've begun his career with that particular FC Team

NSW
Arthur Morris
Bob Simpson
Don Bradman
Victor Trumper
Charlie Macartney
Steve Waugh
Bert Olfield
Alan Davidson
Ray Lindwall
Charles Turner
Bill O'Reilly
Glenn McGrath
You named 12 Red.

His bowling peak is the greatest bowling peak of any bowler post world war II (according to ICC peak ratings).

Look up his record against the best team of his time and his match winning ability

vs England in 1982, 1987 vs India in 82-83 vs WI in 1986 and 1988
Thanks.

State 12th Man
Geez that Barbados size would be a match even for a 12 man NSW.

I'll try Vic

Bill Woodfull
Bill Lawry
Neil Harvey
Dean Jones
Bill Ponsford
*Warwick Armstrong 5
Keith Miller 1
Shane Warne 4
+Jack Blackham
Merv Hughes 2
Bill Johnston 3

Hugh Trumble

Lindsay Hassett and Jack Ryder would be in the mix somewhere too.

That bowling attack is stronger than most countries' ATXI bowlling attack

So Barbados vs NSW, who would you guys back for a series win.
01. Arthur Morris
02. Bob Simpson
03. Don Bradman
04. Neil Harvey
05. Allan Border
06. Keith Miller
07. Adam Gilchrist
08. Richie Benaud
09. Alan Davidson
10. Bill O’Reilly
11. Glenn McGrath

Nothing in it really. Bit of spin in the wicket and I'd back NSW.

You just got to be kidding. Other than the fact Bradman would tear that attack apart, even Bobby Simpson has a 300 against the WI.(I think)

Reckon it would be close myself. Sobers has the ability to master the Bluebaggers' attack. The Barbadian attack is so proficient that Sobers could be used as a strike option instead of the donkey he was usually forced into being.

To my knowledge all those players started their careers with NSW. Border went to Queensland, and Gilchrist went to WA for example, but they are still NSW boys. Will double-check Harvey as I'm not overly sure......

Lindwall could be bought in for Davo if you prefer the Lindwall/Miller combo.

EDIT: Harvey was born in Melbourne (Fitzroy) but played for 2 States;
1946–1957 Victoria
1958–1963 New South Wales

To be pedantic I should choose another batsman I guess,

For these types of XIs I'd go by state of origin rules so that would exclude Miller and Harvey. Border is a bluebagger though. So Trumper for Harvey and Lindwall for Miller. Monty Noble 12th man.

This NSW State of Origin team to beat Barbados;

01. Arthur Morris
02. Bob Simpson
03. Don Bradman
04. Stan McCabe
05. Allan Border
06. Steve Waugh
07. Adam Gilchrist
08. Alan Davidson
09. Ray Lindwall
10. Bill O'Reilly
11. Glenn McGrath

Note: McCabe shades Trumper because of his proven brilliance against fast bowling.

I quite forgot about McCabe  I also like RH's selection Macartney. Bit of left arm spin too though it wouldn't be needed too often.

From Watson's team I've put in Trumper in place of Simpson. Trumper was the greatest batsman in the world in his era.

Seriously, some of the names that are left out of this NSW XI are staggering.

Mark Taylor
Bob Simpson
Charlie Macartney
Mark Waugh
Archie Jackson
Michael Clarke
Bert Oldfield
Jack Gregory
Richie Benaud
Fred Spofforth
CTB Turner
